    3. Seeking information about the Lemmon/Lemon families of Scott Co KY, especially - Margaret A Lemon, b 12 May 1816 Scott Co KY, d 24 Dec 1891 Cynthiana, Harrison Co., KY; m Joseph R Barbee ca 1834 Scott Co KY. I have information on the 11 children of Margaret A Lemon and Joseph R Barbee but I am at a standstill in proving the parents of Margaret A. Lemon. Their first two daughters were named Mary and Josephine, possible family names of Margaret A. Lemon since they do not appear in the Barbee family. Strong posibility for parents of Margaret A. are Joseph I. Lemmon and Margaret Leathers who also have a daughter named Josephine and Mary Ann. But I can find no proof of Margaret A as a daughter. Any new lead would be appreciated. Carole Gregory cgregory@prodigy.net

    1. Re: A Man Named LEMON
    2. Hi, Could one of these be the man named LEMON? Robert Lemmon with brothers John and James emigrated to America in 1750, settling in Baltimore, Maryland. James LEMMON, son of Robert LEMMON, was born in 1765 near Hagerstown, MD. He served as a messenger boy during the American Revolution when a lad of twelve years--it being safer for boys to carry the messages than men. He carried messages from the camp of General George Washington to that of his father Captain Robert LEMMON and others. He lived in Washignton's camp in Valley Forge and affectionately called him Uncle George. Toward the end of the war James entered the Continental Army as a private and served until the end of the war. In 1800 James married Sarah CARR and lived in Bowling Green, KY. James LEMMON's mother was Eleanor DAVIS (born in Wales and of the Jefferson DAVIS) line. Does it seem possible that it was him or one of these LEMMON families? THIELJL@aol.com

    1. A Man Named LEMON
    2. Debbie Malec
    3. Found this while going through my MacCORKLE file: Parts From a Letter from William A. Anderson, Charlestown WV 28 NOV 1903: ...A man ..who I think was named LEMON came to him & asked him to certify to the fact that he (LEMON) had served with the Botetourt Company in that fight, so that he might obtain a pension. My grandfather could not recall him, but LEMON told him he could mention certain incidents that would satisfy him that he (LEMON) was with the army of General Green and was at the battle of Cowpens and at Guilford. One of the incidents LEMON mentioned to him was at the battle of Cowpens. General Morgan commanded his troops not to fire until he gave the order, and then to aim at the knee buckles, which were conspicouos upon the knees of the British soldiers. A young man in the Botetourt Company, before General Morgan gave the order to fire, had leveled his rifle and was taking aim at the British who were then in point blank range. General Morgan cursed this young soldier, asking him "What in hell!" he meant by violating his orders; and the young soldier, with tears running down his checks, said "General, I'm not going to fire; I'm just takng good aim." This man LEMON told my grandfather that he (LEMON) was this young soldier. My grandfather remembered the incident distinctly and perhaps, then recalled that the man's name was LEMON. Mr LEMON, afterwards told my grandfather that he (LEMON) was present at the funeral of Lieut. MacCorkle. ( my other ancestor). Anyone know who this LEMON might be?
