Don't want to negate your action, but this has already been decided upon, any mail you send them now will be returned to you with a response saying it has already been voted on and they are NOT going to impose per minute charges (at present, does not mean it would not come up again down the road), I also have been to their web site and their response to this was over 300,000 computer users... I think they got the message. ;-) > The message below was sent to me by a friend, and I've checked it out with > an official in my computer users' group, who assures me it's a real threat, > so take action as you deem fit: > Lynn White > > I am writing to you to inform you of a very important matter currently > under review by the FCC. The message below was sent to me by a friend, and I've checked it out with an official in my computer users' group, who assures me it's a real threat, so take action as you deem fit: Lynn White I am writing to you to inform you of a very important matter currently under review by the FCC. Your local telephone company has filed a proposal with the FCC to impose per minute charges for your internet service. They contend that your usage has of will hinder the operation of the telephone network. It is my belief that internet usage will diminish if users were required to pay additional per minute charges. The FCC has created an e-mail box for your comments at isp@fcc.gov. RESPONSES MUST BE RECEIVED BY FEB 13,1998. Please send them your comments and your thoughts on this matter. Every phone company is in on this one, and they are trying to sneak this one by. Please also send the e-mail address to everyone you can think of. I don't know about you, but although I can understand the phone usage thing, I would really hate to see this happen. Please let's put a stop to this not only for the now, but also for future purposes. The e-mail address again is: isp@fcc.gov Please respond.
Howdy all. Fred again here with another unusual genealogy site for the brave and daring. I don't know where I came up with this one. I had it in my bookmarks. It's been lying there to torment me, I'm sure. this databse is very large. It is according to the person who posted it, over fifteen megabites when compressed. I can't imagine it uncompressed. There is a readme file in the directory so you can click on it. I can't get the counties file to come up or some of the other ones. The directories themselves seem to work and the index seems to have reference to the names. It's all rather cryptic but you should be, with a little patience, able to navigate to the family you are looking for in here To quote the author. The history department at the University of Minnesota has compiled a 1% sampling of the 1880 Federal census. The original file (73 megabytes) is a complete accounting of the census enumerations of more than a half million individuals. This data includes information geared to socialogists and historians and most of it is expressed in 2 to 4 digit numerical codes requiring separate lookup tables. In order to accomodate such large data and more than 107,000 files, I have had to create a rather extensive directory structure in the form of: /state.or.territory/county.code/enumeration.district/filename Here is an an entry from the index: HALMAN CHARLES WI/1110/0256/106488 Charles HALMAN is found in the State of Wisconsin, county code 1110, which happens to be Sauk County, enumeration district 0256. The file name is 106488. The paths are relative to /pub/1880/. To download the file in which Charles Halman appears, issue this FTP command: get /pub/1880/WI/1110/0256/106488 Each file lists every person in the household in the same order as they appeared in the census. The two-letter postal codes for the states are used as directory names. These are the codes I devised for the directory names representing territories: AT - Alaska Terr. NT - New Mexico Terr. DT - Dakota Terr. UR - Utah Terr. IT - Idaho Terr. WT - Washington Terr. MR - Montana Terr. WR - Wyoming Terr. Good luck. Hope some of you can find some relatives in this thing. ftp://ftp.genealogy.org/pub/1880/ http://www.alaska.net/~fsalter Home Page of Fred and Mary Salter in Eagle River, AK mailto:fsalter@alaska.net http://www.alaska.net/~fsalter/html/surnames.html SURNAME Listing now 14,531 names. Bill Compton -- Do you have other info on your LAYMANs? Please email me either privately or to the list. We have a Jacob we're trying to place in our LEEMAN/LEEMON/LEMAN line. Thanks. Valerie valerie.wood@ssa.gov
Mary Layman was born May 10 1817 in Clinton Co. OH, and married Samuel McKibben on August 16, 1836 in the same county. Can anyone tell me if she was the daughter of Jacob Layman, who was an itinerant preacher living in that part of Ohio at the time? I would truly like to hear from you if you have an answer. I am trying to research the Lemons Family and am in need of any information that could be given. So far this is what I have: Tennyson Lemons and Arizona Lemons were both born in the mid 1800's. Tennyson died aroung 1969 and Arizona died aroung 1976. They had two sons; one was Charles Delbert Lemons and the other was Bobby Lemons? Charles died in 1982. Any further information would be appreciated. Thank you. Brian Lemons (bjlemon@us.ibm.com)

My understanding of Lehmann is that it is that of the serfs in our small village in Switzerland and that Lehnherr was the name of the "landlord". Does anyone on this list know if that is true? Haven't seen this spelling on the list, but here's hope. Jacob LAYMAN was born ca 1780 in VA, according to census. His first wife is unknown, he was a Baptist preacher & died in Clinton Co OH, buried in Highland Co. In his will he only names 2 sons, Amos & Silas, but we think he also had the following: Joseph, Ann married HENRY CLOUD, Tavner, Elizabeth, Laodice, Nancy & Mary. Who were his parents & what was his wife's name. Any help greatly appreciated. Peg
I would like to subcribe, but would like to know if the variation of the name has come up with any LAMONDS? I know that the spelling of LEMONDS and LEMONS was some of the variations... I would not want to waste the time of your other subscribers if my family name never appears. Thank you Diane
Any info on Shindledecker that marred a Lehman. Mike

Is it possible that your John B. Lehman was the son of Hans Jacob Lehmann, b. 12 Jul 1711 in Blankenloch, Germany and Anna Magdalena Henperlin, b. 15 Sep 1723 in Blankenloch. They had a son Jochim Lorentz Lehman, b. 29 Aug 1742 in Blankenloch who married Sarah Grooms. They had children born in York, Adams and lastly Bedford counties, PA. Most of this family headed on to West Virginia and then to Kentucky and changed their spelling to Layman. You might try Blankenloch records for your John B.s birth. Don
Does anybody have information in regards to the marriage of a male Lehmann to a Falkenstein, Gertrude, Princess von Hanau? She died July 9, 1882 and was also married to von Hesse-Cassel, Frederick William I, Elector of Hesse on June 26, 1831. I am searching for connections to an old family rumor that relates Clara Lehmann, who died in Chicago in July 1945 to the Hohenzollern family, the royal family of Prussia and Germany. Its a vague one, but thought I would ask. Anybody else heard this? Sherry Lehmann

My distant cousin told me that it was possible that we are distantly related to Jack LEMMON, the actor. I am not accepting this as a fact until I have a proof. Here's what she sent me on Jack's family history. Jack LEMMON was born John Uhler LEMMON III on 8 Feb 1925 in Newton, MA to John Uhler LEMMON, Jr. and Mildren La Rue NOEL. The NOEL family was an old line from MD. John LEMMON, Jr. was a former Naval officier and became a lieutenant. He died in Santa Monica, CA around 1961 to 1962 and was brought back to Towson, MD to be buried in the family plot. He had a brother, Vernon C. LEMMON, who owned a funeral home in Towson, MD. John, Jr. was son of John LEMMON, Sr. Does anyone know anything about this John, Sr. or his parents, etc? Did any of this family go to TN? Any other information on this family is appreciated. I have no further information on any of these persons or the NOEL family...just what is in this query. Nova A. Lemons lemstar@juno.com
