    3. I have all my files in Generations but with the problems I am experiencing also the fact that it is not supported any more, and with new version of Windows I suspect it will only get worse. I have decided to start using Legacy. In Generation I created new files in but they do not seem to transfer across to Legacy as a GEDCOM file, everything else has come across OK. The files are all my census records Does anyone know how I can do this Jim Isard

    3. Jim, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but, after spending almost two years making the conversion you are talking about, I must tell you that Generations is a flawed program and it does not produce GEDCOM files properly. The problem is with the sources and notes. Generations never got its act together as far as sources were concerned and they end up all over the place. The most damaging thing is if you entered sources into the notes fields. Yes, I know Generations let you do that but those sources don't get to the GEDCOM file the right way and may just end up in Legacy as unassociated notes. I solved the problem by editing my Generations GEDCOM file by hand. This took a long time and I had to educate myself on the construction of a GEDCOM file. Even after I was finished many sources ended up in the Legacy Master Source List as just a "source". Generations didn't link them up right so Legacy doesn't know what to do with them. Unless you want to delve into your Generations GEDCOM file, your only alternative is to manually re-enter your sources and notes into Legacy. Good luck with your endeavor. -- Dan Cooley Jim Isard wrote: > I have all my files in Generations but with the problems I am experiencing > also the fact that it is not supported any more, and with new version of > Windows I suspect it will only get worse. > > I have decided to start using Legacy.
