Content-Type: text/plain; x-avg-checked=avg-ok-2FE34A19; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Currently running FTM, latest version whatever that is, and thinking about making a switch from it to another pedigree program, possibly Legacy. Has anyone else done this? What made you choose Legacy? Are you satisfied with Legacy? How easy was it to switch your data from (especially) FTM to Legacy? -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Content-Type: text/plain; x-avg-checked=avg-ok-2FE34A19; charset=Windows-1252 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Legacy suggests doing this to export a database from Family Tree Maker to Legacy. Importing files is just as easy. I've used a number of shareware versions of Genealogy software and I'm very happy with Legacy. It's not expensive and it seems to have most of the features I like. An "Undo" button would be nice however. Legacy does work well with very large files and you can add photos etc as well.. All in all I'm happy with it. Nelson Denton ( who used to chase after a "Pat Jones" - female version) ***************************** Family Tree Maker 6.0 / 7.0 / 7.5 1. From the File menu, select Copy/Export Family File. 2. Click the Save as type drop-down list and select GEDCOM. 3. In the File name field, type a name for the GEDCOM file. It must have the extension .GED. 4. In the Save in fields, select the drive and folder where you want to place your file. 5. Click Save and Family Tree Maker displays the Export to GEDCOM dialog box. 6. Make your selections from the dialog box as follows -- Destination: FTW, Version: 5.5, Character set: ANSEL, check the Abbreviate tags box. 7. Click the OK button and the GEDCOM file will be created. Content-Type: text/plain; x-avg-checked=avg-ok-2FE34A19; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit I have used FTM 3.0 and 10.0 and PAF by LDS church, Legacy and Family Origins and found that I like Legacy the best. One thing I like the best about Legacy is the Merging ability is the better of them all. I keep FTM around for some files I get from people who use version 10 or older that send me files instead of Gedcoms. Otherwise I wouldn't use it at all.
