Elizabeth and James are married and I am directly descended from them - the relationships of all their descendants to yours truly appear on the family view as we climb down the tree. Now James died and Elizabeth married John, let us say. Elizabeth remains my 4G Grandmother, but no relationship appears for her children by John - to whom I undoubtedly am related. Have I missed something simple, or is there perhaps a minor bug, either in my data or the program? All advice welcome

Sherry: I see there is a new Legacy Update available. Would it be possible to have whoever is responsible for posting Legacy Update notifications to the LUG also post them here? -- Dennis Kowallek kowallek@iglou.com ******************
Dennis, Ken posts the updates and he's not a member of this list. I'll ask if him it's ok with him to post them here, if I remember when the update comes out. In Legacy v6, you can *always* find out about updats by clicking on the Legacy Home tab and viewing the Update section. And it's announced in the Legacy News viewable in that tab also - along with a link to the blog article which has a link to what's in the update. Thanks for using Legacy. Word of caution about the Legacy update. People've been having trouble downloading it, and if it stalls partway through you end up unable to use the program you've got. Legacy thought they came up with a workaround, but I think I'd wait awhile. Program I've got works, afterall, and nothing major in the update! Certainly none of the things that most need upgrading. Dora, The update is running perfectly from our website now. I've already notified you of that on the LUG list. Thanks for using Legacy. I downloaded the update on Sunday and had absolutely bo problems. Lucy > Word of caution about the Legacy update. > > People've been having trouble downloading it, and if it stalls partway > through you end up unable to use the program you've got. > >
Hello everyone- I download the GR 118 with absolutely no problem, -almost- as fast as I normally download them. The only problem I had was the original site to download from, but that seems to be fixed. I was notified via the Legacy list maintained by Millennia. Robert

That's not exactly the problem. This time around there were 2 "problems" with the update . . . Sometimes a very large file needs updating and when that is occurring the install indicator may appear to be frozen or stalled but the file is still being downloaded! If a user stops the install at that time they will have a mix of old and new files, and possibly a corrupted file, which may prevent Legacy from running. It is best to wait for some time before cancelling an apparently-stalled update as it is likely still in progress. This time around . . . Millennia informed *everyone* (except you lucky RootsWeb-only listers) about the general update at the same time -- beta testers, translators, language testers, and users. So the single server became overloaded and couldn't handle all the requests. This slowdown at the server contributed to more users that usual seeing the apparent stalling mentioned above. The bottom line . . . when updating Legacy (or any files) *don't* stop the process unless you are absolutely sure the update has failed and will not resume. Be thankful that you were not informed along with the rest of the user-group. Now is a good time to update. :-)) Cheers, -- Dave N -- David Naylor, Halton Hills, Ontario, Canada. ---
Dora, Once again and as usual you are a fountain of misinformation. The only problem with the download was due to a problem with the server. It had absolutely nothing to do with the download itself. The problem was corrected by the next day or two. You really should try getting your facts straight for a change.
