In my opinion, it has been designed bass-ackwards. The checkbox should read "Honor Source Detail Options" and should default to unchecked. I argued this with the programmers several years ago, but I lost that argument. And I rightly predicted that this would cause problems in the future. To this day I don't think they see this as a problem. I am glad that you were able to recover your data. Dennis, No, I don't think we do see it as a problem - In the 4 years I've worked for Legacy, this issue hasn't been brought up to Support by our users. Well, maybe once when someone asked about the export and when I explained the option, he was perfectly happy when he learned about it. The only thing I could see the possible need for a change would be to change the "exclude" or "include" option in the Master Source or Source detail to say "reports, web pages and exports" but then we're getting a little wordy. Reading Help files really can answer a lot of questions about a feature. Did you know that this option to include or exclude can be set in Options > Customize > Sources as a general default for the Family File? Thanks for using Legacy. Of course I did. I stand by my opinion that this is a clumsy implementation. Whether or not to include source detail on reports and whether or not to include source detail in exports are two separate things and should be treated as such. It is a much cleaner design. If the current design wasn't confusing ... then why are we having this discussion? I argued this several years ago. When I lost this argument I asked that export option should default to include source info *or* the export option be made "sticky" so that a user can select it once and not worry about it again. You know how I feel, so I'll shut up for now ... or until the next time I see someone having a problem with this. ;-) -- Dennis Kowallek kowallek@iglou.com ******************
A major reason I have stayed with Legacy is the ability to exclude on export Source Detail text, comments and pictures. I have a website I update often and don't want these details on my site. However, I do agree that this should be an option and not the default.
