Jerry, You can open a gedcom in a text editor program such as Notepad or Wordpad. Open it up and take a look to see if everyone you wanted to export actually were included in the gedcom. Just look for the names - you don't need to worry about all the other information in there. Thanks for using Legacy. I've read JerrSingle's comments about Legacy's GEDCOM with interest. I am a Generations user but because it's company (Sierra, Inc.) is now defunct I decided to switch to Legacy. When I transferred my data from Generations to Legacy I found out many things were not getting into Legacy from Generations, especially sources (and some comments too). I think most of my individuals got there. I contacted Legacy Customer Service and they sounded very helpful. She said lots of former Generations users were having trouble with GEDCOM transfers to Legacy, implying that Generations was at fault. Sources were out of kilter or just not there. She told me to e-mail my GEDCOM file and that "Dave" would take a look at it. That was SIX MONTHS ago. I've e-mailed several times but no response. Legacy isn't as enthusiastic about helping me now. I now suspect that Legacy's GEDCOM import algorithm is wrong. I've looked at my Generations GEDCOM file and, while I'm not a GEDCOM expert, it looks to me like sources are in there correctly (i.e. sources are all at the end and look like this: @S22@... for example). JerrSingle, I think Legacy has a big GEDCOM problem -- Dan JerrSingle@aol.com wrote: >I have this problem I imported a gedcom to Legacy and because I only needed >a little bit of the names in the file I exported a gedcom from that file. Hi, I am new to the list. I am having problems with Legacy losing information when I close out the program. What could be causing this . Its been happening now for for quite awhile. Any new information I enter into notes is gone when I return to the program. I can't figure out what is happening. [Version : 5.0.0.173 Build Date: 26 Oct 2004] Thanking you in advance Nancy

When I first switched from family tree maker to legacy, all of my sources were loaded into the file by mistake as non-printing. Thanks to all for your comments and suggestions. I was able to sit in on a LEGACY class this morning and got to watch the teacher resolve problems and answer "how to" questions. That is really one neat program - so MUCH better than FTM; I only found one thing I didn't like and that was the ability to backup directly to disk. Hopefully, that is something that the makers will add shortly. I have been warned several times about how to transfer data from FTM to Legacy so think I will manage that successfully. And it is on order as we speak. Thanks again to all who responded to my question. Pat -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Sherry, Thanks for the advice. I will reinstall Legacy, but first I want to make sure that I still have the password to unlock my Deluxe version. I'll also be making more backups of my restored database before I try anything else. Thanks again. Sherry, This is all I could find on Error 3020. "Error 3020 (You tried to call Update or CancelUpdate or attempted to update a Field in a recordset without first calling AddNew or Edit". Sounds like something that happens in the database when an incorrect key sequence is used. Bet it never happens again. Jim
Nelson, Legacy requires that there be a male and female in the relationship. There is no way you can enter them in Legacy as male/male or female/female nor even link them together. They could both be imported as males or females, but when you run a File > File Maintenance > Check/Repair, the program will make one female and the other male. I believe the "Next deleted..." message you're getting is Error 3021. If you go to our website at http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp > Solutions by Error Number, you'll find a solution to that error message. You can always undo a merge and/or import up to a point - as long as a merge is in progress, you can undo that. The import can be undone until you close Legacy. For both options, look under the Edit menu. Thanks for using Legacy. David, I really can't find anything on the web or the Microsoft site that might refer to that error message. I would suggest that you go to our website at http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/help12Steps.asp and run through the steps there to see if those will help. Rather than just doing an update, I'd suggest doing a complete uninstall and reinstall. After running the uninstall, with Windows Explorer find and look in the C:\Legacy folder or what ever folder you had Legacy installed in. Within this folder you will find several files remaining that you will need to delete. Carefully delete all of the files in the Legacy folder but DO NOT delete any of the folders like the Data folder, Picture Folder or Video Folder as these folders hold your data and you don't want to accidentally delete your family file or pictures.
