Sherry, Thank you. I already found the website and have taken care of the problem. I went through the Legacy-List Archives and found a reference to the Error No. I was receiving. Dear Dave: Thanks for that. I was assuming that the original name was still needed. Marion > Yes! It doesn't remove the incorrect spelling from your Master > Surname list. It doesn't remove the incorrect spelling from your Master Surname list. So next time you Start typing this same surname the incorrect spelling may come up instead of the correct one. If you don't want that spelling anywhere in your file then you now need to go to the Master Surname list, click on Options, and then Purge Unused. Gladys, Thanks for the suggestions. That is a good idea. I have several surnames that have changed spelling over the years and no longer look like the original. I like the entering of the AKA to keep track of them. Thanks again. Thanks to all for the responses on correcting the surnames. I had gone to the Master List to make corrections on Locations, but just did not think about using it to correct the names. I tried it and it worked. Two or more heads are always better than one. Ruth
Hi Ruth, Saw your message re "Correcting Surname Spelling" There is also a way to add the alternate spelling to the list so that you will reminded of the different spellings when you are searching. I will have to send it to you. I hope you are doing okay, take care and I will call you soon. Don, Since I haven't had this problem I haven't paid much attention, but there have been people on the Legacy Users' Group who have talked about this. You can go to Legacy's website and get on that email list. I don't know if the archives are available, but I'm pretty sure they are and you can find where this has been discussed. Also since it has been discussed there and Millenia Corp. people are actively involved in the group, the webstie may have an answer. It's been so long since I've had a problem with Legacy that I have forgotten how to report one! Since I downloaded the 4 Feb update, I cannot create a usable PDF file from the Print Preview screen. When the generated file is opened by Adobe Reader the information message "Font has not been set." is returned by AR. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader ... no change. PDF files I created from Legacy as late as 20 Jan are OK. This is quite a setback to me as I also am not getting good results when I create a Rich Text File. Anybody know what's up? Don
I have Legacy Charting Companion, but have only used it for a pedigree chart. It did the job I needed done, but I'm not that familiar with it. Diane Which Legacy Charting add-on do you use, Legacy Charting Companion, or Tree Draw 3? I have Legacy Charting Companion and like the pedigree type charts it produces; however, the descendant charts are undesirable. Legacy Charting Companion is simple to use, very little help comes with the program, and may produce the result you want. I like the common ancestor to be at the top of a descendant chart. I can't figure out how to rotate a chart in Charting Companion. I also would like more flexibility in shaping the chart. The Charting Companion has almost none or at least I can't figure out how to manipulate the size of boxes, etc. Genelines is another program that creates charts, but it does not sound like the program you are discussing. That program is simple to use as well, but if you are wanting better results from the charts it creates, one will need to spend time improving the historical libraries which can be altered. Thanks for your time. Gordie Diane Murach <dmurach@starstream.net> wrote: I purchased the Legacy Charting add-on and really liked it. I purchased the Legacy Charting add-on and really liked it. Last Christmas I made pedigree charts for each of my nieces and nephews' families. I saved it on a disk and took to my local Kinkos. They printed it on a plotter and each chart was about 36" and 24 ". (Just an estimate for size) I purchased the cardboard roll mailers and sent them off. They had been bugging me for something about their genealogy and I'm not ready to put my findings in a book. Still need to collect land and probate records. Perhaps my Legacy program will do this, but I'd love to see an add-on that facilitated the creation of a book where one can see info about each generation's immediate family (b, mar, d, spouse and sp's parents) , then bring in the photos, documents, and stories with text wrap capabilities. I want a more involved generational book. Like I said, perhaps it will already do this, but I don't know how to get the photo, document, and note information into a readable book. The other file was all of that family surname living in the area connecting them to each other and their ancestors. I finally can make a connection. How can I merge these two family files?
