    1. Help downloading update
    2. Jan Petty
    3. Hi List Can anyone help. I have been trying every week or so for the last two months to download the Legacy 6 standard edition update but everytime I click on "download from the web" I get a "this page cannot be displayed" notice. I have been using Legacy for about 4 years and not had the problem before. I am not having this problem with any other site. I have contacted Legacy support but their answer was no help at all. Tonight for the first time when I clicked on "check for update" from within the program, I got a message saying that I wan't online. Well I definitely was online. The only thing that has changed in the last months is that I now have broadband rather than dialup. Any suggestions to fix this gladly received. Thanks Jan

It sounds like Legacy is unable to access the web and this points to the possibility that your computer has a firewall that's blocking it. Check your firewall and ensure that Legacy has permission to access the web. Try using your browser to go to http://www.legacyfamilytree.com, find the update link and you should be able to download the update directly. HTH. 3. G'day Diane Thanks for the assistance. It is easy when you know how. I have only one divorced couple in my family and I had never encountered this problem before. I have been able to sort out the children's setting, so no problem there, however I would be pleased to learn who you make your direct ancestor bold if you remember how to do it! Thanks again and regards Ian Donaldson : At the top of the screen go to view, pull down to spouses. In the bottom : right corner are arrows. 3. Ian, I plucked this out of the Legacy archives from January 2006. I like and use both suggestions. Thank you Jim Winfrey. Diane Pauline and Diane, Go the the Tools icon at the top of the screen, click on "Set Direct Line as Preferred". When asked, select a person to be the focus from which the direct line is calculated. Go into Options to select a color for the direct line individuals. Another feature that goes along with the direct line - you can pick a focus person (doesn't have to be the same one) and click Tools, Set Relationships. That identifies the relationship of everybody in the database to the focus person if they are related. 2. Ian Donaldson
    3. G'day I have just produced a descendants report and have found a problem. One of the persons was married twice, once in 1993 and again in 1998. However the report first gives the details of the 1998 marriage first and then further down it says that she later married again in 1993! Now, what is wrong and how do I fix it? Any suggestions? thanks and regards Ian Donaldson

    3. Dave, You can export a gedcom of tagged individuals or a focus group. You'll find the steps for that under Help > Search for Help on or click on the context sensitive "Help" button in Gedcom Export window. Thanks for using Legacy. I was waiting to see if someone had a better idea than mine, as this has always frustrated me as well. What I do is make a report with one person as the starting point. You have to play around with it, as not all reports will go into text. Just click on the person you are starting with and go to reports and see which one suits, as you can preview them before saving. Hope this gives you an idea how to get started. 3. Hi Mary; On the Individual's screen, look just to the right of the Title Suf. box under the icons. There you fill find three buttons; "M", "F", and "?" You can select the sex here, with ? for unknown. They will be grayed out when there is a spouse. If you have the Husband and Wife in the wrong place the you can go to: Edit tab on the Family view and click "Swap Husband and Wife" to fix them. I hope this helps. 3. Do a "Search > Search and Replace" based on "Dates-Birth" etc. using the word EST as the "Find What". and under "How to Find" click on "Anywhere in field" Then under "How to Replace" click on "Replace only found text with replacement text." unless you want to delete everything in that box. You can then edit as you go or do a mass replacement with a phrase of your choice or you can note each person by hand. Assuming your database is not 297,000 people like mine is LOL! Nelson Denton
