You say the filename's extension is ".FG" ? Hmmm, to me that means fiscal guidance. Is there an accounting program on your system? There is even one meaning for ".FG" that a lot of people would offensive (it is for a game), so I don't want to mention that explicitly here. I do see some *.fg files in my Legacy folders (in fact, I see a bunch!), but I am not sure what they are for. Suggestion: Can you see the full name of the FG file? Such as Brown.FG? If you can, try this: 1. Go to START 2. Click on Search 3. Enter the name of *your* file, such as Brown.* (without the extension) 4. Click Search. I am hoping you will find your file elsewhere on the hard drive? If it is still in the Recycle Bin, this will find it for you. If it is in a folder marked Timbuktu, it will find it for you. How are you trying to open this file? By double clicking on this file itself? OR, by opening Legacy and migrating to the file and opening it from within Legacy? It sounds like your file association table may have become mixed up and the Legacy file is no longer associated with Legacy, but with something called "FG". You should be able to right click on the file while holding down the shift key, choose the Open With option, then browse to Legacy, but before opening the file with Legacy, make sure the box is cheeked for "Always open this type of file with this program" or something to that effect, Alfred D. Sheila, Sherry is involved with the Legacy list for now. There is no reason why you should not be able to open your Legacy file. Please try to recall what you did in your file that morning and possibly someone else can help you. The list is not working but if enough people migrate to this one I am sure that you can find a solution. Sheila, A file with the .fg extension is a "focus group" file. It stores the focus group info for use with your main Family File and will have the same file name as your main Family File. You can't open it on it's own. It's normally a very small file. Thanks for using Legacy. Mary, Our web site clearly indicates the shipping charge when you place your order. Besides the cost of the postate, remember that we also have the expense of printing labels and packing slip, the envelope we ship in and the time involved in processing the order. I'm looking at our online store's order form and nowhere does it say "priority mail", although it does say that when you're checking prices in the "basket". That's the only US Mail option other than air mail. If you look at the order form, flat rate for shipping via US Mail within the US is $7.00. Priority mail is for packages, letters, etc over 13 oz. I have a question for the group. If I have downloaded a video, and put it into Legacy, when I send out the CD's will the video, sound, etc. automatically load onto their CD, if I include the folder, Multi Media files? My son plays in a blues band, and I want to share his great talent with other family members. Am I explaining this well enough? Thanks for any help you can give me! You can disable the option to access the internet when you start Legacy - in the Legacy Home tab, click on the Options button and select Options. On the Internet Options tab, select "Never check the internet unless a link is clicked". We have a lot of major new features in Legacy v6, including Research Guidance, Publishing Center, Legacy Home tab (which includes options for Birthday/Anniversary and To-Do Item reminders), an "interactive" Potential Problems Report, the ability to sort events chronologically and a ready way to sort children's lists. Hi Sherry & thanks! I have a 2 year old computer with Windows XP. I keep all Windows updated to date & just upgraded the RAM to over 1GHz. I shan't blame the program as somehow I just didn't understand the higher versions, I guess. v. 5 wasn't a totally bad one for me but v. 6 just never could seem to get going right. Again, it likely was me not doing the program correctly. Anyway, I appreciate the links & will be checking them out. Many thanks for all your help & its nice to know that I'm not the only one using an older version. Sheila, Legacy v5 and v6 is very stable on a newer computer that has all the Windows updates done. If you're trying to run Legacy on a Win 98, Win 98SE or Win ME computer, you quite likely will have problems with v6, but we haven't had a lot of reported problems with v5 on those older systems. We have users who are still using Legacy v3! We have a lot of good information about using Legacy in the Help file and on our website at http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Tips.asp. We also have some new video training CDs, which you can view at http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Videos.asp but those are based on v6, so you might see features showing that aren't available in v4. Thanks for using Legacy. Sherry Customer Support Millennia Corporation Support@LegacyFamilyTree.com http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com We are changing the world of genealogy! I have had the Deluxe version of 4 & still not sure why I went with any of the higher versions. For some reason the higher I went, the more unstable the versions became. Thought at first it was my computer but ended up trying it on various computers that I have with different amounts of RAM. I kept having to reinstall with one headache after another. I love the Legacy program but honestly don't need all the multi-media bells & whistles. I want only a stable program in which I can enter my information as safely as possible. I've just decided to enter detail text in the Notes section & source that as well so I don't have to be concerned about the source text dissapearing. I love Legacy & am content with v. 4 so all worked out just fine for my needs. I'm sure there are numerous genealogy purists who feel I've done things right however sadly, I'm not horridly computer savvy when it comes to the improvements in the higher versions. Thus, I'm back to enjoying Legacy & have finished making all the entries that kept getting lost. I've learned a lot from the experience & came out quite content. Many thanks for the sugestion & will keep it on file. Sheila
