I am using this time without the Legacy e-mail lists to begin organizing my sources. I have one newspaper that I have used 152 times over the years for obituaries, marriages, job changes, etc. I had created 152 separate sources. Now I have a single source - the newspaper and I am creating citations each event. Here's my question. When I go to the Source, I can click on "Show List" and get a list of all the folks who have citations from the Source but I can't figure out how to get a list of the Citations under that Source. I was wrong. Legacy uses a feature called Focus Group, and I did not think about that when I answered this inquiry. "FG" is also an extension for Legacy's Focus Group settings, in addition to whatever other companies also use "FG" for their purposes. The program I have is NOT a government accounting program, it is just personal home accounting program. Hmmm, to me that means fiscal guidance. Is there an accounting program on your system? There is even one meaning for ".FG" that a lot of people would offensive (it is for a game), so I don't want to mention that explicitly here. I do see some *.fg files in my Legacy folders (in fact, I see a bunch!), but I am not sure what they are for. Suggestion: Can you see the full name of the FG file? Such as Brown.FG? If you can, try this: 1. Go to START 2. Click on Search 3. Enter the name of *your* file, such as Brown.* (without the extension) 4. Click Search. I am hoping you will find your file elsewhere on the hard drive? If it is still in the Recycle Bin, this will find it for you. If it is in a folder marked Timbuktu, it will find it for you. Janis, It's not "missing" - we're just having problems with our list server. Messages posted to the LUG list are definitely getting through to the list but for some reason messages aren't getting delivered to our users. The staff with @LegacyFamilyTree.com email addresses are the only ones getting the messages right now! Which I suppose is good because we can at least respond to them <g> We're madly working at trying to solve the problem to get the LUG list up and running again. Thanks for using Legacy. Sheila, Renaming the Family File (File > Rename Family File) doesn't create a copy of the Family File but renames the file. If you want to make a copy of a Family File, go to File > Save Family File As and select a new name for the file. You'll then have the original file along with a copy of that file with a different name. The main Family File, which is the one you open in Legacy, has a .fdb extension and is identified in Windows Explorer under "Type" as "Legacy Genealogy Software" I would say backing up more than once a day is a good idea if you're doing a lot of work in the Family File or if you have an older computer that might be wearing out! And make sure that your backup is saved to a CD or floppies - you *don't* want your backup on the hard drive if you have a hard drive crash! Don't forget, if you have the backup reminder set and you exit Legacy without making any changes, you won't see the backup reminder - that was changed in a recent build. Thanks for using Legacy. Well, I'm back to using v. 4 & *thought* I could rename my file. I *thought* I had done that with v. 4 but likely it was just v. 5 that allowed that option. I don't expect anyone else to fully understand why I wish to do this as it was my own way of keeping track of my updated files. I did a test file from a GECOM of the original file so I could see exactly what happened. I have the program set to allow me to Prompt for Starting Family File so when that window opened just as a personal precaution, I right clicked on the file & selected Rename the File. I have a condition that causes some spasticity at times so often keep my hand off the mouse when I'm not using it. Unfortunately this time I wasn't fast enough & when the window appeared that said the file might beome unstable, my finger must have clicked the mouse.... Voila! file gone. I've done a search of my hard drive & can't find it anywhere. I did find the Test file but it won't open... says it is an invalid file extension. I checked properties of the Test file & it show no extension. Bottom line folks, my finger betrayed me & blessedly its only a few hours of work. Considering my spasticity issues, I'll just back up whenever I exit the file. I thought once a day was often enough but within my own personal situation it needs to be done more often. Just want to thank everyone who has been so gracious to me in offering help. The past few weeks have been rather frustrating for me with the program but I've learned much more than I've lost in information... besides, the info hasn't been lost, it just needs to be reentered. Now that's a *major* upside, eh? SHeila

Do as Dave said, but just use: *.fdb That will bring up all your Legacy files, in case you forgot the exact name.
