Beth, The LUG list is up and running (I think...). Last Saturday afternoon, we went off-line because our server host moved all their servers to a new building for expansion. We were back on-line Monday morning but we're now hearing from quite a few users who aren't getting emails from us at all - either from the LUG list or from us directly. I know I've had quite a few bounces from Comcast, RoadRunner and a couple of other domain names so we're being rejected for some reason (and the reject messages haven't been at all helpful!) Ken's trying to sort through it all and I hope he gets it squared away really soon! Messages are getting *to* the list, although it's been pretty quiet lately. Thanks for using Legacy. In your reply to Sherry it is impossible to tell where Sherry's comments end and yours begin. This was probably the source of the confusion which led to your being unsubscribed from the LUG in the first place. -- Dennis Kowallek kowallek@iglou.com ******************

Lloyd, Are you referring to the Legacy User Group (LUG) mailing list sponsored by Legacy or the Legacy@Rootsweb mailing list? Legacy doesn't intentionally unsubscribe anyone from the mailing list unless there are serious infractions of the Legacy Users Group Etiquette guidelines. Thanks for using Legacy. Yesterday I replied to an e-mail wanting to know how to stop getting mail from LUG. For that, I received an e-mail from LUG that I had been unsubscribed from the list. This e-mail is to let the List Managers know that if I am unsubscribed, then I am deleting my Legacy data from my computer and start back to using RootsMagic. I like Legacy but, if I cannot get help from the list when I ask for it and get booted off for replying to a request for help, then I do not need this list or the software. Lloyd
It would appear that any request with the word UNSUBSCRIBE in the subject line will do just that! So, if you want to ask a question about how to do it, do not put that word in the subject line, or it will just do it for you! As you have in fact "requested" it! Due to the way the list program runs. This list will also do the same if you include that word in the subject line... Just go subscribed to the list and post the question without adding the unsubscribe word in the subject line... I can't be sure because I don't know if Millennia mentioned a reason for unsubscribing you. I have been doing some experiments with RM and Legacy Geds and have found a way to export a ged from Legacy to RM correctly. I deleted the Divorced Event, put Divorced in the status box in the marriage info., then in the status date I added the date of divorce. I exported a ged to RM and it listed the divorce as a fact correctly. However, when I exported a ged of this data back to Legacy, it put it in Events divorced and description divorced. I need to find out how to keep it from showing up as a description. Lloyd
Hello Lloyd One thing I was pleased about when I went from Legacy to RootsMagic and back again was that Divorce showed up as a marriage event in Legacy. When just using Legacy, it never occurred to me to make a divorce event at all. There is nothing in the Description field at all - just Event, Date and Place. This is how it appeared after importing from RootsMagic. I am using V5 of Legacy so V6 may be different. I haven't tried to go back to RootsMagic so can't comment on that. I do know that for my website to not have Divorce twice, I have to not export the marriage status (where I have Divorce). Not sure if this helps - just my experience. I do not know why divorce description shows up in Legacy imported from RootsMagic, but it gives me a headache to have to go through and change them every time. It is even worse when I export back to RM. Then I have to change the fact from Divorced to divorce on each one. Lloyd
Unfortunately, I have only the demo of Roots Magic so I can't see what it's doing in the gedcom. If someone would please email a RM gedcome to me directly at Sherry@LegacyFamilyTree.com, I'll take a look at it to see if it's what RM is doing or how Legacy's importing it. Thanks for using Legacy. I have all my files in Generations but with the problems I am experiencing also the fact that it is not supported any more, and with new version of Windows I suspect it will only get worse. I have decided to start using Legacy. In Generation I created new files in but they do not seem to transfer across to Legacy as a GEDCOM file, everything else has come across OK. The files are all my census records Does anyone know how I can do this Jim Isard
Jim, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but, after spending almost two years making the conversion you are talking about, I must tell you that Generations is a flawed program and it does not produce GEDCOM files properly. The problem is with the sources and notes. Generations never got its act together as far as sources were concerned and they end up all over the place. The most damaging thing is if you entered sources into the notes fields. Yes, I know Generations let you do that but those sources don't get to the GEDCOM file the right way and may just end up in Legacy as unassociated notes. I solved the problem by editing my Generations GEDCOM file by hand. This took a long time and I had to educate myself on the construction of a GEDCOM file. Even after I was finished many sources ended up in the Legacy Master Source List as just a "source". Generations didn't link them up right so Legacy doesn't know what to do with them. Unless you want to delve into your Generations GEDCOM file, your only alternative is to manually re-enter your sources and notes into Legacy. Good luck with your endeavor. -- Dan Cooley Jim Isard wrote: > I have all my files in Generations but with the problems I am experiencing > also the fact that it is not supported any more, and with new version of > Windows I suspect it will only get worse. > > I have decided to start using Legacy.
