    1. [LEGACY] New to Legacy
    2. Jim Isard
    3. As someone who has used Generations for years and has decided it is not worth carrying one with it because of lack of support. I have over the last 6 months transferred all my files to Legacy (Free Version) I now wish to upgrade to the deluxe edition. Can anyone answer the following questions for me (1) If I pay for it to be downloaded on my PC can I copy it to my laptop which is not connected to the internet (2) I have saved my files as Legacy backup on my PC - how do I transfer this to my laptop (3) Also have saved a multimedia files which contains all the photos on my PC - how do I upload this to my laptop so I do not lose the photos Any help would be appreciated Jim Isard

    3. Hi Jim... I don't know the answer to the first questions...I too recently switched to Legacy from FTM, then added a laptop for my use, but I have internet connection on my laptop, so I'm not sure how that would work. I do know that one of those flash drives (I think that's what they are called) will work wonders in transfering both your Legacy files, photos, and anything else you might want to transfer. I know I have both my family files (which has only about 1300 people in it so isn't the largest file on the planet), and about 2000 photos, all on one flash drive. They plug into a USB port on your PC, then you save to it just like you would to a floppy, unplug it from the PC and plug it into the laptop. Anyway, that should help with your second two questions, and others will be along shortly to help with the first one. Also, to anyone reading this, if I've stated something here incorrectly, please let me know...I'm trying to get this computer stuff down and others always seem to know easier ways of doing things than I do. Have a good one...cheers! 3. Jim, Legacy can certainly be unlocked on your home computer and laptop with the same customer number. If you wish to install the program on an unconnected computer, you must first go to our website and download the setup file Legacy6Setup.exe. Make sure that you select to "Download Full Setup". Burn that file to CD or copy to a flash drive and then you can use it to install Legacy on the laptop. Just restore the backed up file to the laptop. Go to http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Tips.asp, where you'll find an article under "Backing Up and Restoring Family Files". The multimedia backup will need WinZip or other compression program to unzip the file to the laptop. If you did a multimedia backup through Legacy, only those files attached to your Family File are included. Thanks for using Legacy. So I un-installed Passage Express and BINGO, as you said, it cured the problem! For my next trick I will try running the CD of my family file which I've created with Passage Express, on a PC which does not have Legacy installed, like, for example, my daughter's - and I'll report back to the List. 3. Definitely, you need to uninstall. I believe I mentioned that. When you uninstall Legacy, your Family Files are protected as the whole folder isn't removed. I honestly don't know what Passage Express does when you uninstall. If you have anything there you want to save, you might move it to another folder. Thanks for using Legacy. I do, however, think there is a time-saving value in doing that - rather than opening the image outside of Legacy based on the file number I had recorded. This is a long shot I'm sure, but just in case I'm missing something - is there any way of doing this through the Picture Center? I can access the folder they're in, but I assume I can only link them to a person in Picture Center and not a source. Oddly enough, the picture filename U column indicates with a + sign that the document is linked, but there doesn't seem to be any way of telling what it's linked to. Boy, it would be helpful if I could do that!
