    2. PLEASE READ AND KEEP! It seems that some of you have received messages from another list member with attachments infected with the "BadTrans" worm virus. The message may appear to be a "reply" from the list. A wiser fellow list administrator has given permission to reprint his advice here: Because the BadTrans worm sends its evil payloads ONLY to FROM addresses that are unread in the infected person's e-mail program. List messages include the original sender's "from" address. The worm uses the original subject, quotes a snippet of the original message, and uses different names for its attachment file. All of this adds up to looking very, very much like a message *from* the list, or at least from a trusted fellow listmember. Here's the breakdown: 1. Such messages cannot come directly from RootsWeb 2. NEVER open an attachment even from a trusted correspondent, unless it is expected, until its contents are separately confirmed 3. PLEASE, PLEASE make sure your antivirus software is not only updated (latest virus definitions), but upgraded (program has been augmented to handle new "types" of malicious code). 4. When I receive these infected messages, I will post that e-mail address to the list as a warning. The sender will be contacted by me privately to alert them of the problem, as they are usually unaware. Do NOT bombard that person with messages - you will only add to their grief and yours. When their e-mail addy has been verified as free of the "worm", I will be happy to immediately resub them to this list. Comments, questions, advice? E-mail me privately - PLEASE do NOT post to the list. Nancy Lewis Millsap List Administrator
