Marsha A Kentucky Cousin The affidavit of Johnson Graynam, a clergyman was also given at the same time and in the same places as the foregoing. The said Deponent stated and swore that he was well acquainted with the said Pensioner who was a neighbor of said Deponents. This Deponent also stated that the pensioner was of the age stated and he also stated and swore that in the neighborhood in which the said Pensioner resided he was reputed to have served in the War of the Revolution on the side of the United States of America. And the said Deponent further stated that he himself concutted in the above opinion of his service. The said Pensioner himself, Joshua Lee, was on the Kentucky Roll of Pensions at the rate of $24.88 per annum and his certificate of pension for that amount was issued on August 9 of the year 1833 and it was then sent to William T. Willis at Greensburg in the state of Kentucky. ============================================================================ Lee: William and Drusilla. Birbinia #W.9117 On March 2, of the year 1839 in Buckingham County in the State of Virginia, the Affidavit of Rolfe Eldridge was given as follows. The said Deponent being the Clerk of the said County Court produced the following date. The said Deponent stated and swore thta he aurhorization to procure a marriage license was signed by SAMUEL STAPES and hte Marriage Bond was signed by WILLIAM LEE and JOSIAH JONES and it was dated January 13, of the year 1783 and it stated that the said Drusilla Lee's maiden name was DRUSILLA STAPLES. On January 12, of the year of 1852 in Green Co. in the state of Kentucky, the Affidavit of DRUSILLA LEE was also given. The said Deponent stated and swore that she was the widow of the said soldier and she was also stated and swore that her husband had received a pension from the Government. The said widow also stated and swore that they had resided in Green Co., in the state of Kentucky for a period of FIFTY YEARS and tht before that time they had resided in MERCER COUNTY in the same State. On January 12 of the Year 1852 in Green Co in the state of Kentucky, the Affidavit of FRANCES GAINES and WILLIAM E. GAINES was also given. The said Deponents stated and swore that at one time and in the said county and state they had been both well and favorable acquainted with the Pendioner and his Widow and they also stated that he was the identical Pensioner that he claimed himself to be. On February 2, of the Year 1859 in Green Co in the state of Kentucky, the Affidavit of DRUSILLA LEE was again given. The said Deponent being at the age of 75 years and bind the widow and relic of the said Pensioner appeared in open court and stated that they had been married in Buckingham County in the State of VIRGINIA by the Reverend Mr. McILLROY on Jan 24, of the Year 1783 and she also stated that her husband had died on February 12, 1835 and she stated that she still remained the Widow and Relic of the said pensioner. The Affidavit of GRESHAM LEE was also given at the same time and in the same place as the foregoing. The said Deponent stated and swore that he was at the age of 37 years and that he was a SON of the said Pensioner and his Widow. This Deponent also stated that he remembered his FATHER well, and that he had been Pensioned and had died as had been stated and that his PARENTS had duly and legally married as had been stated. This deponent also stated and swore that the following records were true ones: William Lee and Drusilla Lee were married on January 24 of the year 1783. Wm Lee was b on Jan 24,of the year 1754 Drusilla Lee was b in the close of Dec of 1764. (NOTE of Marsha's ...no day was given and this affidavit was with his mother at the time of it) Maryan Gresham was b on Jan 10, 1782. Samuel Lee was b on May 12, 1786, William Lee, Junior was b Feb 17, 1789. This record was in the HANDWRITING of the Pensioner. On August 27 of the year 1838 in Green County in the State of Kentucky, the said pensioner at the age of 78 years appeared in open court and stated that he had been drafted in BUCKINGHAM CO., VA and that they had then marched to ALBEMARLE BARRACKS in the Company under Command of Captain WILLIAM BANNING in the SUMMER of the year 1778. He also stated that he had volunteered in the FALL of the year of 1788 in Buckingham Co. in the state of Virginia and that he had joined the Command of General STEUBEN and that they had then marcjed to the POINT of the FORK on the JAMES RIVER in the state of VIRGINIA. He also stated that he saw the MARQUIS de LAFAYETTE and that he was HONORABLY DISCHARGED after having served for a tour of the one month duration. The Pensioner also stated and swore that he had been drafted to serve in the Capacity of a Militia Man in the Year 1781 from BUCKINGHAM COUNTY in the State of Virginia to serve in the Company under the Command of COLONEL WILLIAM CANNON in the Regiment under the Command of COLONEL HALCOMB and in the Grigade under the Command of GENERAL LAWSON. He also served under the commands of COLONEL B. RANDOLPH and COLONEL TUCKER. The said Pensioner served in teh BATTLE of GUILFORD COURTHOUSE in the State of NORTH CAROLINA and he was HONORABLY DISCHARGED at RAMSOURS MILLS in the State of NORTH CAROLINA in the month of MARCH of 1781. The said Pensioner also stated that in the Year 1781 he had served in the Comapny under the command of CAPTIAN THOMAS LIFTRICH (LEFTWICH) for a tour of three (3) months duration and he was hten honorable discharged August 10 of the year 1781 by MAJOR THOMAS WATKINS. He also served in the company under the Command of CAPTAIN PETER GARRAN and under MAJOR WOOD JONES in the capacity of a Sargeant and he had then marched to the SIEGE of LITTLE YORK, He had been drafted to serve for a tour of three (3) months but he only served for one and one half months because he became sick and he was then HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS LIEUTENANT. The Said Pensioner was born in ALBERMARLE CO. in hte STATE OF VIRGINIA and he had removed to the state of KENTUCKY in the year 1788 and he then settled in MERCER CO., KY in the said STATE and he removed to GREEN COUNTY in the state of KENTUCKY. in the year 1794. The affidavit of THOMAS GAINES a CLERGYMAN, and SAMUEL WHITE was also given at the same time and in the same place as the foregoing. The said Deponent stated and swore that at one time and in the said county and state they had been both well and favorably acquainted with the said pensioner and the said deponents stated and swore also that in the neighborhood in which the said pensioner resided he was reputed to have served in the War of the Revolution on the side of the United States of America. The following record of the discharge of the said pensioner was also found with his pension record and it has been copied verbatim: CAMP MEACONS OLD FIELD, comemanded by Caprains Oeftwitch and Early having deserted excepting three, WILLIAM LEE, being one of them the command thinks proper to discharge him although his time of service has not yet expired. DRUSILLA LEE the WIDOW of the said pensiner received $38.16 per annum and her certificate of pension for that amount was issued on May 18 of the year 1852 and it was then sent to JOSEPH H. SHERWIN at COLUMBIA in the state of Kentucky. The said WIDOW was also on the KENTUCKY ROLL of PENSIONS at the rate of $438,16 per annum and her certificate of pension for that amount was issued on May 29 of the year 1839 and it was then sent to THE HONORABLE J. HARLAN at HARRODSBURG in the state of KY. The said pensioner himself, WILLIAM LEE, was on the KENTUCKY ROLL of PENSIONS at the rete of $49.16 per annum and his certificate of pension for that amount was issued on November 7, 1837 and it was then sent to WILLIAM T.
