Lorien Gunsallus referenced the following extract from my Generation 11 (2 of 4) message dated 97-08-30 18:18:52 EDT. She states near the end that "This erroneously attaches Capt. Thomas LEE, son of John Lee, Esq. of Johnston Co. NC to this line. This information has been around for a long time and has been proven to be incorrect, but continues to live on in publications for all to see." I apologize for perpetuating a lineage that has been proven incorrect and hope the following will help those that have an interest to correct this information. Also... I did not follow the guidelines for Subject: provided by Harold Helm, LEE group listowner:sundance@neosoft.com e.g. "posts should always begin LEE (or variant) then first name then key YEAR & LOCATION in Subject line please for example, LEE, Edmund Jennings, ( key YEAR HERE ) US Lineage-Index(4 of4).... also, "maximum file size to list of 50 kb please on topic - many thanks PLAIN ASCII TEXT only, please." Index (4 of 4) was an MS Word file in Rich Text Format, size 74K; therefore, it was not forwarded to the Lee-L@rootsweb participants. Sorry. David E. Pope, tabsgran2@aol.com. In a message dated 97-08-30 18:18:52 EDT, you write: > 87B This Captain Thomas Lee wrote in his bible, "I am the son of Richard Lee > and Judith Steptoe, born Dec 3, 1729, Northumberland County, Virginia." He > (Captain Thomas Lee) married Mary Bryan of North Carolina. > Research: 87B History of Wilkinson Co., GA The Lee Family beginning at Pg. > 571 > He first married Mary GRIFFIN. Born 1732. Died 1758. They had the following > children: > 173 i. Samuel LEE > 174 ii. Thomas "Greenberry" LEE > 175 iii. John LEE > He second married Mary BRYAN. Born in NC. They had the following children: > 176 i. Thomas LEE > 177 ii. John LEE > 178 iii. William LEE Sr. > 179 iv. Richard LEE > 180 v. James LEE > 181 vi. Needham LEE Sr. > 182 vii. Anna LEE > 183 viii. Lewis LEE > 184 ix. Zilpha LEE > 185 x. Willis "William" LEE > 186 xi. Winnifred LEE > 187 xii. Edward LEE > 188 xiii. Mary LEE > 189 xiv. Luvanna LEE OOPS. We have a problem here...and it applies to any other descendants shown following Capt. Thomas Lee's line in the referenced post. This erroneously attaches Capt. Thomas LEE, son of John Lee, Esq. of Johnston Co. NC to this line. (Some of the children aren't even Capt. Thomas's so this mixes up at least two men of the same name...) This information has been around for a long time and has been proven to be incorrect, but continues to live on in publications for all to see. :-( Capt. Thomas DID NOT write the above quote in *his* bible. The Bible belonged to Needham Lee, Sr. and the information that was written in many decades after the fact has been proved to be incorrect. If anyone wants more on this, please email me directly. Lorien Gunsallus
