A large contingency are found in the heart of TX near Freestone Co., TX on the 1860 Federal Census. A goodly number of the men joined the Confederacy during the Civil War and are found in the military records. We are stumped though in placing them back in IL which is where most report they are from. The oldest member is a John Lee, born in late 1700s who says his state of birth was VA but we have no absolute proof of his parentage. Wouldn't you know it would be a common name like John not Herkemer or Aloishus(sp)Ha! Ha! Any help even suggestions appreciated!
