Marie: 1) I do not have Joel Lee's spouse, but I have the date of birth as 10 Dec 1770. Looks like either figure could be right, given the sibs. 2) I don't have any evidence or indication that Jesse was married twice. The kids' dates of birth seem to be pretty continuous from 1770 to 1785 - one every year or two. But I only have 10 kids listed... 3) My John was born in the middle 1700's (before 1765) and died in 1814. 4) Are you sure about the Elizabeth "Betsy" Blackman? The birth and death dates of the two wives do not match with the kids, unless a divorce was involved. That was pretty rare in those days. Consider this: Jesse is b. in 1740. If he were to have a first wife, it'd be sometime after 1758 and before he marries Susannah Johnson in 1770. But Elizabeth Blackman wasn't born until 1767, per your info. So, it is unlikely he married her before Susannah. And Susannah died in 1840, per my data. This is well after all the 10 kids were born, and possibly after the ones I'm missing. If either the death date is wrong, or there was a divorce, I guess Jesse could have married Betsy AFTER Susannah, and probably after the last kid I have listed (Rosa) was born (1785). E.g. assume that Susanna dies in 1790 or so (not 1840), Jesse is only 50 and hooks up with a younger woman, Betsy, who is now 23... Maybe they have a few extra kids before Betsy dies in 1811... I've worked on this for years but never got past the N.C.area problem of Jesse's parents. Do you have the spouse of his son,Joel Lee Born: Dec. 10, 1779 (Son of Jesse and Susannah). I also did note the Ingram and Blackman names and wondered if they were siblings from the same family, cousins, or etc.I have most of the spouses for the children of Jesse who were married but no family info other that birth dates. Thank you for the suggestions and I will start looking with sincerity in these suggested areas. I have just dug out the family sheets. Seems Jesse was married twice; There was a total of 15/16 children between the two marriages. Was your JOHN born July 8, 1801 in Sampson Co, N.C.? Jesse's first marriage was to Elizabeth "Betsy" Blackman 1767-1811 and she was the daughter of Joseph Blackman...Marie Dennis Lee <[email protected]> wrote: Marie: It wouldn't surprise me to find that Jesse and my John Lee were brothers. Both were in the NC area at one time in their lives (mine was there in 1785/6, at least)and both ended up in SW MS / SE LA. And they were about the same age. But, that remains to be proved. What it does do is offer you perhaps an avenue for research. My John Lee was married to Elizabeth Fenton in the 1785/6 timeframe, and had land transactions in 1786 in Currituck Co, NC. The transactions list the couple as being "of Beaufort Co, NC", although Elizabeth was living in Currituck in 1785. You might try looking in those counties for your Jesse... Also, I have info on the children of Jesse - who they married, etc., but I suspect that you already have this. Note the Ingram and Blackman names of the spouses. Several other Lee families from NC married into the Ingram and Blackman families. Might mean something; might not.
