    3. I'm very much interested in the family of William Lee, b. 1718 Shankill, Armagh, North Ireland, especially as my Lee's might be connected. I found the following on the son Frances who m. Jane Alexander in "Genealogical and Personal Memorial of Mercer Co., NJ. Francis Bazley Lee, ed., Lewis Publishing Co., NY, Chicago, 1907." The Lee Family Francis Lee, original emigrant and founder of the Port Elizabeth and Trenton branch of the family, was born in 1749. His birthplace was in the "county of the town of Carrickfergus," an Antrim seaport, ten miles from Belfast. Carrickfergus is memorable in history as an ancient capital of Ireland, and the landing place of William III, 1690. Owing to the destruction of family papers there is no record of Francis Lee's ancestors, although tradition says that they were non-conformists of Midland English stock. Nothing is known of Francis Lee until November 21, 1770, when he married Jane Alexander, a school girl of good family. With her, it is said, he eloped to America. It is supposed that Francis Lee landed in Philadelphia. He soon began to acquire property. In 1774 he paid a lb. 4 tax in the Chestnut Ward of Philadelphia, and is named among warrantees for thirty acres of land in Northumberland county, Pa. and two lots in Sunbury, the then recently settled capital of that county. During the Revolutionary War Francis Lee prospered, and toward its close he dealt actively in Real Estate. In 1780 he purchased ....(it's a very long article and I've yet to copy it all). Anyway, our branch of the Lee's who were also in NJ, are listed as descended from Hosea Lee, b. 1655 England, d. 1713 Carrickfergus, Antrim, Northern Ireland. He m. Elizabeth Albet in 1675 in N. Ire. They had sons: William, Abraham, Elder, Gershom and David Andrew Lee. All but Abraham came to America in 1714. Only descendants of Gershom Lee who m. Mary Drake (dau. of Capt. Andrew Drake and Hannah FitzRandolph) are yet known. It would seem that there might be a connection between these Lee's. I'd appreciate any information that might connect them.
