This is not really my line, but in looking for help on the line of John and Martha Lay of Caswell Co,NC, I am investigating Leas and Slades in that County..hoping to make a connection. LDS film 877532 includes the Article "Lea Family of Va., NC and Mississipi " by E.W. Dixon, and "Slade Family of Caswell County, NC," Slades and Leas intermarried. This article states that Lea and Leigh were used interchangeably, and since 1800 some lines have used Lee, some Leigh, some Lea, some Lay. There is a wonderful amount of information on William Lea, b.1623 who was of King and Queen Co. Va...probably had sons John ,Francis, William, and James. William b. 1623 was the son of a John Leigh..and his son John (Jr.) inherited the vast acreage of John, his grandfather. John (Jr) had sons Richard Leigh and Ferdinand. William b 1654 was President at one time of the House of Burgess m. Mary Green., served in the House of Burgess until his death, when he was replaced by William Bird, April 20, 1704. Reportedly died when he fell off a horse..after "drinking on the Sabbath" I did not yet make the connection to Caswell Co.. so much of this film unread..Excellent Film, by the DAR. ..B.
