    3. I have the Descendants of Needham Lee Book done in 1980, by John W. Lee, and Lorene Lee Berry. In it are listed 21 Needham Lees. The book is full of information, but it rambles and is disjointed, and I cant seem to put much of it together with my line. any help appreciated. Quoted from page 141: The 1740 Needham is the first one listed, and states that Arthur Lee, david Lee, Needham Lee, Timothy Lee and his son James Lee were all taxpayers in Dobbs Co., NC in 1759. this evidently is the same Needham shown in the first census of 1790 in georgetown District, Prince Frederick Parish, SC. The record shows four males under 16;, one male over 16 three females and six slaves. Based on subsequent census records he remained in SC through the 1820 census and had at least four sons and two daughters. He had a royal land grant in 1772 and several State Grants after that time for around 100 acres of land. The Royal Land Grant was in the Craven District, while later grants were in the area of Lynches Creek and Pole Cat Branch. According to early state maps, they were all probably in the same area. According to the book, Happy Heritage, written by William Lewis Lee and published by the state Co., Columbia SC, 1943, by Lyndo Lee (Mrs. R.B.) Cannon, Needham had the following brothers: 1)Arthur Fernay Jr., 2) William, 3)Timothey, 4)Sherard, 5)Needham, 6)John, 7) David. this Needham must have been the one appointed to the Navigation Commission and several Boaards to either build, repair, or maintain bridges, roads, or ferries between 1785-1809. (Not: see "History of Old Cheraws" and "History of Williamsburg".) The last positive record of him is the 1820 census of Williamsburg, SC. He, his wife and four young females are shown. Who the young girls are is a mystery. It is not known who his wife was, how many children he had, or what their names were. All that is known is that he had a son, also named Needham, b. ca 1775 which we will deal with later. This 1775 Needham is referred to Needham Jr. in a land patent, or grant, in 1804. End Quote In the book, there are other letters, copies of land grants, and more. I am confused as to if this the line of this 1740 Needham is connected to Richard Lee, or Capt. Thomas Lee. The writer of the book seems to think it was Richard. Needham Lee Jr, (1775) is listed as having a son Needham Wesley(1816). If anyone wants, I can list all 21 Needhams, and their approx/exact birth dates. The book also states on page 158: Ferney Lee, son of Arthur Ferney Lee was born 4 June, 1719, lived in Charleston SC, married Elizabeth Hayne, settled Lynches River, and built Lee's Mill on north side, Lynches River...he had 7 sons(Only 6 are listed): Arthur Ferney Lee, Jr, William Lee Timothy Lee Sherad Lee Needham Lee John Lee Arthur Ferney Lee(Sr) is the 7th son of Richard Lee and Letita Corbin, who was born in 1693.
