In 1638 was Clerk of the Council, Burgess, and member of the Council and Secretary of State. This Richard Henry Lee is also the Great Grandfather of Richard Henry Lee & Francis Lightfoot Lee, two brothers who signed the Declaration of Independence through his son Richard. This Richard Henry Lee is also the 2nd Great Grandfather to "Light Horse" Henry Lee through his son Richard, a brilliant Cavalry Leader in the Revolution, three times Governor of Virginia, member of the Confederation and US Congress and he died a martyr to freedom of the press. This Richard Henry Lee is also the 3rd Great Grandfather to Confederate Army General Robert E. Lee, the son of "Light Horse" Henry Lee. Most of this, I am sure, is common knowledge.
