    1. [Lee] Looking for my link to Robert E. Lee

Lee and that at one time he visited his family in Texas and either my great grandmother or her mother sat in the general's lap as a little girl. (The aunts cannot remember for certain which it was.) However, I have not found a relation to the Lee's on my great grandmother's side. I am wondering if anyone out there may have the answer for me. My great grandmother's name was Lettie Louisa Castleman (b. 1894 Mississippi; married Sam McDonald; d. 1983 Robert Lee, TX.) Her parents are James Moses Castleman (Son of William S. and Susannah Sanders Castleman from Tennessee; b. 1837 Tennessee; d. 1900 Santo, TX) and Arthusa Daves (Daughter of William Harrison and Mary Elizabeth Mitchell Daves from Georgia; b. 1852 in Mississippi; d. 1928 Gordon,TX.) Other surnames are: from the Tennessee/Arkansas area: Charett, Heckling, Jordan and Dickerson; and from the Georgia/Alabama/Mississippi area:Vermillion (Re! lation to Texas Jack Vermillion of Virginia who ran with Wyatt Earp.) On an interesting note: I do have one Lee in my family tree from the correct time period, but from the wrong side of the family. On the McDonald side, my fourth great grandmother's name is Susan B. Lee and she is from Virginia. She was born around 1788 and married William B. Steward who was also from Virginia and later lived in Tennessee. Their son John Seaton Lee Steward is my third great grandfather. He was born in 1821 in Tennessee but spent most of his life in Texas where he married Ann Elizabeth Mackey and died in 1888 in Will's Point, TX. Their daughter, Thursey Alciadora was my great great grandmother. She married Randall Cornelius McDonald and their son Sam Jones McDonald married Lettie Louisa Castleman, the girl who may have sat in General Lee's lap. I asked my aunts if they may have mistaken which side of the family Robert E. Lee was from because of this link, but they insist it was on my great grandmother's side. Anyway, I would appreciate any information that someone might have that could solve this riddle. Thanks, Rebel Relative :) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
