But my LAY/LEY/LEI/LOY/LEH/LYE line can only be traced back with definitive documentation to the 1800 Census of Mifflin Twp., Cumberland County, PA, where my 4th GGF, John LAY was listed. He was b. before 1755 in PA, 1m. Eva Margaret HENRY, had 5 sons and 3 daughters in 1800 (at least 2 more sons and 1 daughter were born after 1800), and d. c 1820 in Toboyne Twp., Perry Co., PA. His second wife, Hannah, was b. 1770 in Philadelphia Co., PA. His oldest child, a male, was b. between 1774 and 1784. A daughter, Catharine LAY, 1792-1876, and her husband, Christian HENRY (1790-1871) were both born in Bucks Co., PA. Another son, my 3rd GGF, John LAY, b. between 1790-1794, had a Sheriff's Deed issued on his Mifflin Twp., Cumberland Co., land in 1825. His wife remarried to a LORE and had a son, Joseph LORE (born c 1825) who lived in Terre Haute, Vigo Co, IN, in 1907. The LAY family intermarried with the HENRY family and lived near each other in Henry's (Diehl's or Sheaffer's) Valley, Perry Co., just over the mountain north of Mifflin Twp., Cumberland Co. K.
