Ross Cameron, Doris and Listers: I have found the following leads that may confirm whether ABEL LEE, b. Oct. 8, 1783 NC or VA, came to TX before he died, Dec. 25, 1859, or if he was the son of Robert A. Lee or not, or if the ABEL LEE, b. 1783 was the REV. ABEL LEE in the 1850 LAWRENCE CO., MO. Census. Found on CALDWELL CO., TX Genweb site: Caldwell Co., TX Probate Index, Book "A": p. 078 / Hill minors, Lucy Lee appointed guardian / May 1857 / Minute Bk B, p. 63 p. 083 / Lee, Thomas J., minor, A.L. Lee appointed guardian / July 1856, Minute Bk A, p. 373 As stated before, Lucy Lee with some of her minor HILL children and her son (Thomas J. Lee-10) with the REV ABEL LEE from LAWRENCE CO., MO is on the CALDWELL CO., TX 1860 Census. Found on the Index to CALDWELL CO., TX PLUM CREEK ALMANAC, Vol. 21, #1, Spring 2003 edition: 1. Abel Lee, Vol. 21, p.33: I emailed the Caldwell Co. Gen. & Hist. Soc. and this page 33 is a liting of scholars in Caldwell Co. Schools in 1856. Abel Lee had 2 male and 2 female children in school there but it does not list their names. 2. Mr. Lee, Vol. 21, p. 9: The CCG&HS says this reference is to a Mr. Theodore S. Lee, who fought in the Texas Revolution, as being buried in the Harwood Cem. This Mr. Lee was supposed to be related to Robert E. Lee (I assume they are talking about the CSA Gen. from Arlington, VA). My ABEL LEE, b. 1783 VA or NC was also supposed to be related to this same Robert E. LEE but I'm still concerned with trying to prove ABEL's parents at this point. I have tried to search the various cemetery listings in Caldwell Co., TX but they are not online. I live quite a ways from Caldwell Co. so it may be a while before I can study all the cemetery rosters or the Probate Book A listed above. Is there someone out there in CALDWELL CO., TX that could do a lookup of the original documents referenced in Probate Book A and/or Cemetery Rosters/Estate Settlements at the Courthouse in Lockhart? THOMAS J. LEE and his mother, LUCY (Hill) LEE, are in the 1870 Caldwell Co., TX Census living with her older son, George Hill and family. Thomas J. Lee is 19 & Lucy says she's 52. WOW, she's a year younger than the 1860 census! In the 1880 CALDWELL CO., TX Census, Thomas J. Lee, 28, DEAD, is listed with his wife, Mary J., 26, & 2 sons, George M., 6, "sonD" & William R. Lee, son, 2. Both Thomas J. Lee and son, George M. have faint lines through their names so guess they died before June 1, 1880. This family is living with Mary J. (Brown) Lee's parents, Ranson A. Brownd (listed as Brown in other places). William R. Lee, 22, son of Thomas J. Lee, and his mother Mary J. (Brown-Lee) are listed with Mary J.'s #2 husband, Alonzo E. Blitch in the 1900 Hays Co., TX Census. Mary J. & lonzo have a son of their own named Alonzo E. Blitch, JR. The 1910 Andrews Co., TX Census has W.R. Lee, 31 (counted in May before his b'day) and his mother incorrectly listed as "Sarah" Blitch, 60. William is a hired hand on a ranch and he is noted as being "single" and she as a "widow". The 1920 Andrews Co., TX Census has William R. Lee, "46", stockfarmer, listed with his mother, Mary J. Blitch, 66, widowed and William is still single. The 1930 Travis Co., TX Census, Austin City, has William Lee, brother, 51 (counted in April before his birthday) listed as "wd" & S for single and living with his half brother, Alonzo E. Blitch, 43 and his family. Looks like Thomas J. Lee and his son, William R. Lee, left no offspring to help us out. Hope to hear from our lookup plea. Thanks to you all, Lynda Green
