Am posting this to Lottie, with a copy to the Lee list since it may prove valuable for others. Dear Lottie, Unfortunately, this information (below) is incorrect. I have researched your third generation Lee for years and know quite a lot about him. He is my ancestor through his son Henry who married Mary Dunham. In fact, generations have been looking for this William Lee's parents. There is no evidence in any document that his middle name was Fairfax. Unless George Lee had a son William by his first wife, the William I know he had was b. 1750. My William was born 16 March 1742; had three wives according to testimony of his son Zephaniah (two whose last names we really do not know and the third may have been a married name); had 21 children and died in Warren Co., OH. My mother discovered the exact date of his birth by reading the John Lee journal citation on his death and I recently found the name of another daughter, Phoebe. It took about 17 years to settle his estate in OH and I think I have copies of all that data. Circumstantial evidence and John Lee's journal places William Lee's family in Frederick Co. VA for a period of time around 1760's and possibly before. The family history maintains that William was a Virginian and a relative of the VA Lees. Certainly, this family was in VA but whether the origins are here or not has been debated. His sons married many of the Baptist faith whose origins were from PA and NJ. (My Dunhams, for instance, and your Isabel Hays' family....she, the daughter of William Hays and Ann Hoge out of Bucks co., PA). Nevertheless, there are a couple of families that give this Lee strong ties to VA. This John Lee and Colston Payne of Fauquier Co., VA are closely connected. In fact, I believe that Colston Payne lived with John and Isabel in Deerfield Twp. Warren Co. OH. When spouses die, Isabel Hays Lee married Colston Payne. Further, their children marry and both this John and his brother, Henry buy land in Illinois territory from Colston who was in War of 1812. Also, there seems to be a tie to the Reno family of Prince William, VA. And, lastly, there is a birth date of 16 May 1741/2 recorded in the Christ Church, Middlesex Co., VA Paris Register (keep in mind baptisms were not always on day of birth and this record has been copied off ca. 1800's). This may be a bit much for now, however, have other evidence of related families going along the same path west. Happy to share the information I have and it is very concrete from William Lee down.
