    1. LEE, Joseph -b. ca. 1785?, Virginia USA
    2. Dear Fellow Lee Family Researchers: This is my first posting to this group, and it would be great if anyone could provide some assistance to me. Here is what I know: I am a descendant of Joseph LEE (b. ca. 1785?, Virginia), who was the son of a weaver who came from England. Joseph had six or seven brothers. Here is some information from family records about these siblings, of whom Joseph was the youngest: Older ones were well educated, including a surveyor who did early surveys in the state of Kentucky. Joseph was the youngest of 8 (or seven) brothers, and was one of three Lee siblings who left Virginia and came on an expedition through the Cumberland pass and into Kentucky to kill buffalo; Joseph left brothers and moved on to Ohio, not far from Wheeling, West Virginia. Knew the Wetzel Brothers, famous Indian hunters. Oldest Brother Hiram lived in Zanesville, OH Joseph moved from Wheeling WV to Rush County, IN before 1811, then to Decatur Co, IN in 1819. Land claim entered at Vandalia, IL was east of Clay City, IL Joseph married a woman from New York and had at least one son, James, who was b. 3 Feb 1811 in Rush Co., Indiana, before the family (minus the mother who moved back to NY) moved on to Clay Co., IL. ____ I am the 4th great grandson of Joseph. I would imagine that more information exists about Hiram Lee, Joseph's oldest brother, but I can't be certain. What do I hope to find? Well, I'd like to find the name of the first member of my line of the LEE family--the weaver who had seven or eight sons. My mother's maiden name is LEE, so it is of particular interest to our family. Since the family was in Virginia for a generation, there is always talk of a connection to Gen. Lee--though I understand that it is highly unlikely. Basically, I'd like to find any other researchers of the LEE family who knows of this branch of the tree and exchange information with them. Thank you all for your time, and I look forward to hearing from someone soon! Thanks! Craig Tafel CCTAFEL@aol.com
