The following information does not prove the parents of John LEE Esq., but it does provide a real possibility........ Edward Franklin LEE (son of William Tinsley LEE, grandson of John LEE, great-grandson of Capt. Thomas LEE) Even though Edward is not part of the direct line of my direct descendants, he has provided us some interesting information about our ancestors. This resulted in a questionnaire that he answered that was sent to all Civil War veterans. The detail of his answers is listed in Appendix D. In his notes, he talks about his ancestry...."John LEE my grand-father was born 1776 in Hawkins Co. Tenn. He died in Maury Co. Feb 25, 1842. He married Frances LANE 1795 who was born in North Carolina June 15, 1763, died May 24, 1847. They had four children, three daughters, 1 son William Tinsley LEE my father. After his marriage 1795, his father gave him a farm in Claiborn Co. on Powell river where he owned and operated a griss mill in 1809 he purchased a farm in Maury Co. ten miles North East of Columbia where he spent the remainder of his life. His father was Capt. Thomas Lee came to Tenn from North Carolina settled in Hawkins Co. near Rogersville he was twice married and John was a son by the second union. He served as Capt. under Col. John Severe in the Revolutionary War. The founder of the family in America Richard LEE came from Shropshire Co. England and settle in York Co. VA in 1642."
