LEE/LEA group listowner TIPS mailto:sundance@neosoft.com [LEE-L] Re: VIRUS WARNING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! reposted by permission- courtesy of Bruce Lee <brucel@microsoft.com> REPLIES PRIVATE ONLY; Do NOT post commentary to list -mail Harold or Bruce privately ONLY: QUOTING BRUCE: Again we see hoax virus postings on the LEE list. I'm not irate about this, although I realize that other subscribers become irate at messages of this sort. At Microsoft, we call these 'hoax virus spam'. In essence, it is TECHNICALLY IMPOSSIBLE to get a virus from reading e-mail/Internet mail. The ONLY way to get a virus is to run a program 'attached' to a piece of e-mail - a distinct separate user action totally under the user's control. At Microsoft, I'm on the Virus SWAT Team, and we see 6-12 of these 'hoax virus' messages each month. A little education in these matters goes a long way to ease fears. Fear not, Bruce N.
