He was a big political mover and shaker in Colonial VA. The surname has been variously spelled LEE, LEA, LEGH, etc. in various colonial records. Unfortunately, this guy lived in and around King and Queen County (Williamsburg) VA and the records were destroyed during the Civil War. There are records indicating a marriage to Sarah Emperour on 3 August 1670 in St.John's Parish, Barbados, West Indies. These guys travelled a lot between VA, Barbados, and England. All sorts of records floating around but many of the key items are mssing. I have a fair amount of info on his descendants who straggled down into NC, and will be glad to share it. Leigh Skinner >> Hi Leigh, This is my first post to the Lee List! I have a William Leigh in my line. In fact several! So do you have a William Lee m. Suzannah Chaffin, son Samuel Lee m. Elizabeth Gilham in Orange county, North Carolina. My Lee line ended up in, North Carolina, Indiana then on to Utah and Idaho with the Mormon movement. If this sounds familiar to you or anyone else please let me know would love to exchange info. Thanks Laura (aka: Angel ^i^)
