I've "rescued" three old photographs belonging to the BETTS and LEE Families of New York. The first is a photograph of May BETTS which was taken at the Curtiss & Smith Studio in Syracuse, NY. In addition to her name she has written "23 years old, 8th of April 1883, taken March 24th 1883" and "I will accept one in return" on the back of the photograph. The second is a photograph of Frank LEE which was also taken at a studio in Syracuse, NY, probably sometime in the 1890's or early 1900's with Frank appearing to be in his 40's or 50's at the time. The third photograph is of Hattie LEE and was taken at the Smith & Coatsworth Studio in Syracuse, NY. Hattie's photograph was taken on Jan 23, 1897 and notes that she was 24 years old at that time. Based on limited research I believe that May BETTS was the daughter of Andrew & Sylvia BETTS who were living in Van Buren, NY during the 1880 census. Andrew was age 54, a Farmer and his wife Sylvia, age 48. Living with the BETTS Family at the time were two children, May age 18, and Henry age 16, and a grandson, Andrew BETTS age 5. All were said to have been born in NY to NY born parents. I have also found information and a possible match with Frank May LEE b. 12 April 1864 to parents May LEE and Lucy Euphemia SHEPARD. Frank was one of eight children including a sister Harriet E. LEE that could possibly be the third photograph. The LEE Family was from Skaneateles, NY. I'm hoping to locate someone from this family so that these wonderful old photographs can be returned to their rightful place with family.
