    1. [Lee] Grayce Lee....3rd place in contest for queen in Longmont, CO 1909
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: annageis76 Surnames: lee Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lee/11769/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am not related to this family.. Longmont Ledger (Longmont, Boulder County) Dec 31, 1909 Miss Barbara Allen Chosen for Queen from Longmont The result of the ballot for Longmont Queen of the Apple Show in figures is as follows: Barbara Allen...61, 670 Georgia Smith..50, 570 Grayce Lee...42, 640 Miss Barbara Allen, the winner in the contest, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.F. Allen. She is a Longmont girl by birth and rearing. Man of the good people from the apple growing country around Longmont, though it only justice that the country not city have the representative. But the plans for the balloting were such that she had to rake her chance against the city girl. Miss Barbara Allen is a very attractive young lady and Longmont will be well represented. As to who shall be the real queen, it remains to be seen. From last reports from headquarters we learn that plans for that election had not been perfected; thought it is understood that to the vote which the queen's attendant will get the election in Denver will be added the vote she received in her home town. Of course there will be no candidate for queen not in the list of the queen's attendant. The other young ladies in Longmont's contest showed their popularity and the large number of their friends by the generous vote they received and are grateful in consequence. They have nothing to be ashamed of in the result. Note: There are births, deaths and marriages in the Longmont Ledger for other Allen, Smith and Lee family members. I am enclosing the link. If you see an article you would like me to copy next time I am in Longmont, just let me know at my home email acg13666@yahoo.com.Anna http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~colgs/ledgerindex.htm Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [Lee] James A Lee born Dec 13, 1805 Martinsburg, WV
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: MistletoeLady Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lee/11766/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Son of John George Lee and Elizabeth Lowman. We are looking for information on what the "A" in his middle name stands for. This could help crack through the brick wall we have run into in searching out John George Lee's parents. There is a naming tradition that takes place that many families did follow fairly closely. The Lee's seemed to follow this as well. Here is what it is: English Ancestry: 1st son would be named after his paternal grandfather 1st daughter named after her maternal grandmother 2nd son named after his maternal grandfather 2nd daughter named after her mother's father's mother 3rd son named after his father 3rd daughter after her mother 4th son named after his father's oldest brother 4th daughter named after her mother's oldest sister 5th son named after his father's second oldest brother 5th daughter named after her mother's second oldest sister This tradition kept on in that fashion with these exceptions: * If a child died, the next on of that sex takes the name of the one who died. Example: John George born 1800 dies 1801. Son born later in 1801 takes on the name of John George. * If there is a duplication such as both grandfather's sharing the same name, the name is already taken, therefore the next name in line takes priority and is not duplicated in living children. Example, infant boy's father is named John, so is his mother's father, and the grandparents on both sides also named John, that name is taken for children, 1, 2 and 3. The first son would be named John and the second would take on the name of the father's oldest brother and go on from there. * If someone in the immediate family is quite wealthy, a distinguished person, or in someway is very well known, that name becomes first priority. Example: If a president of the United States is in the line, that name takes priority. Thank you for any information you can provide in this. 2. Nena Smothers
    3. There is a problem between rootsweb and AOL and list by list, most, if not all, of the subscribers are being kicked off the various lists. There is nothing I can do other than wait until the problem is resolved; every post I make will cause the unsubscribing of others. This post itself probably will kick some off but best I can suggest for time being is if you get a notice of being unsubbed please just resub yourself. Until it is resolved and its yet to be I would also suggest not posting either to the list as it will kick off folks. We will be advised when it is resolved thanks kindly for your patience and understanding Lee List admin
