They are not direct ancestors, but a Grandson of his, Bennie Watkins Schober married my grandmother. He had no children of his own and she, and subsequently me and my sister inherited some coin silver spoons and a ring made of diamonds that date from Civil War times. In fact, the family story given to me by my grandmother was that the diamonds and silver coins were taken off of a dead Yankee paymaster during the war and that the coins were later melted down into spoons. The coins have a monogram, but it appears to be NSL, or NTL, but not NWL. I am sure it goes with one of the Needhams, but not sure which one. A large contingency are found in the heart of TX near Freestone Co., TX on the 1860 Federal Census. A goodly number of the men joined the Confederacy during the Civil War and are found in the military records. We are stumped though in placing them back in IL which is where most report they are from. The oldest member is a John Lee, born in late 1700s who says his state of birth was VA but we have no absolute proof of his parentage. Wouldn't you know it would be a common name like John not Herkemer or Aloishus(sp)Ha! Ha! Any help even suggestions appreciated! I looked up your residence names; they are in Duchess County, New York. This county is just southeast of Greene county. So....is it possible that your Jonathan was an older brother to my Ephraim Lee (b. 1755)? Caveat - I did not do original research to discover Ephraim Lee and James Lee. I got this out a an ancestry.com family tree. I am a descendant of William Lee - James & Elizabeth's second child. Have you done the DNA Family Finder test with Family Tree DNA? Sarah and Peter are my many-great grandparents. When I was young an old man in the family said that Sarah was related to General Robert E Lee (son of Henry). But the info and how he knew that died with him. A few years ago I was doing intensive research online about Sara Lee and found a site that said that the place that held the records for a Sarah Lee matching her dates and name had burned down many many years ago. But my computer crashed not long after that and I lost my saved links and have not been able to find the site :( If you have found any more info please let me know.
