Lee" came to their home on his way to Mexico to go into battle. But a little bit of historical investigation tells me the Mexican-American War was 1846-48. Then again in 1861 when Texas seceded from the Union Lee was serving at Fort Mason TX. R.E. Lee died in October of 1870. The witnesses to his visit would have had to be her parents. Do you know whether he visited them in GA or TX...if you are having a problem finding them and they are not in GA in 1860...look at the 1860 Federal Census for Texas. Good Luck. She always told me were were related to "the"Robert E. Lee. Her father's name was Robert E. Lee and suppossedly he was a cousin of the Lee. She was born in Georgia, family moved to Texas. The story was that the Lee stayed at there home on his way to Mexico to go into battle. Her name was Maggie Lou Ann Lee born June 6 1895(or close). Virginia divorced him in early 1878, and raised the two children alone, till she remarried in 1885. Her second husband adopted the girls and treated them as his own. Alexander Wilson Lee was born in Pennsylvania (Annie's answer to the 1910 census question about father's birthplace), and I am guessing that he was born around 1850 (Virginia was born in 1852). He married Mary Wertz (b. about 1795) prior to 1817 in Bedford, Pennsylvania. As far as I can tell they had 7 children. George died prior to January 1846 when his wife, Mary, married Joseph Frantz (also spelled France in some records). I cannot locate any records on George's parents. I have been working on this line for many years and have tried, without success, to find any real records on George. I have been able to locate him in the 1830 Census, and found him in some early Bedford County Tax records but other than that, nothing. I have obtained some information related to his children, including a biography on his son David W. Lee, my gr-gr-grandfather's brother's son, which details some of the family history, but it does not give any information beyond George. It does, however, state that this family is related to Robert E. Lee and General Fitz-Hugh Lee, but I have been unable to trace that line because I cannot figure out who George's parents are!! I really am desperate to try to find this information. I am a member of the Bedford County Historical Society but have found no help there. I have all of their books and have not found what I am looking for there. I have the book "The Lee's of Virginia" but have not found the answer there either...I think if I can figure out who his parents are, this book will help, but I need to get to that point first.
