My brother, Clinton Lee, took the DNA test and submitted it to Ancestry com. I emailed those who were the closest matches but have had no replies. I'll check on the Lee family you mentioned. I found a John B Lee who obtained some land in St. Helena in 1860. Since this is my dad's name maybe a relative? My line is from EBR, Ascension, and Iberville parishes. I'm not aware of a Benjamin Franklin Lee in my line, but we were in the area since about 1800. That said, I'm interested in ALL Lees in the area and know a bit about the ones there since about 1800. 2. When you say "submit a DNA test to the Lee Forum" do you mean to the Lee project at FTDNA or at Ancestry.com? I might be able to help you interpret the results if I know where to go. 3. "From Alabama" MIGHT mean the JLN family (John Lee of Nansemond Co, VA). Many of his descendants ended up in AL and MS, and this is one of the larger Lee lines in the South. My grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Lee, of East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana told the census takers that his father was from Alabama. Lois: St. Helena is a hint. Maybe these guys were tied to the Lees of Union Co, SC who came into St. Helena and down into Livingston in the 1790's. Distant cousins? DNA should tell you... there are profiles for the Union Co line and the William "Fairfax" Lee line (which are connected somehow) at the Ancestry.com site. I take it that you/Clinton did not go through David Lee, the coordinator for the Lee project at Ancestry.com. There are some advantages to doing it that way, one of which is that it is a bit easier to get in touch with researchers for whomever you match. But there are ways around that... Dennis P.S. My guys came up from the St. Gabriel area into Gonzales/Sorrento, where all of them were born up to my generation. Come to think of it, I may be the first of my line to be born in EBRP. We have visited Socrates gravesite in Springfield, Missouri. Samuel's father Socrates was a brother to William Lee, my husbands great grandfather. I have traced William's family as well as his first wife and children. Anna and William are both buried here in Barry, Illinois in the Old Barry Cemetery. I have Anna's will and a small article about her passing in the old Barry Adage. I have Socrates war records and I know by old postings that you have them as well. I am so excited to find you.
