Almost every Lee who's ancestors come from a southern or mid-western state has a family tradition that they are related to R. E. Lee. In 90% of the cases it is just wishful thinking. The best way to approach the issue is to trace your Lee family back one generation at a time and see where the paper trail leads. One branch was centered in Farmington, CT; the other started out in Smithfield, RI and migrated through CT, NY, and the Great Lakes. Numerous books are available on each through Heritage Quest (available to your public library). I am a descendant of the Smithfield group and do not recognize the name-date combinations you cited. You might want to start with the books that center on the Farmington group. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I'm researching my Lee family line and I've run into a brick wall. I'm stuck at Edward Lee, born 1816 in Rhode Island. I think Edward's father is Charles Lee, born sometime around 1785-1790. According to census records, Edward's parents were both born in Rhode Island, too. It appears Edward's parents lived in Willington, Tolland, Connecticut from 1820 - 1860's. The family then appeared in Greenwich, New York in the 1870 census. My uncle said he spoke with extended members of the Lee family in Greenwich, New York who said that Edward married Mary E Frink of the Stonington, CT Frinks. Edward and Mary's children were John b. 1841, Mary E b. 1844, Elisha F b. 1851, Charles b. 1858. I am the great-great granddaughter of Elisha F. Lee. He married Harriet Babcock and they had five (possibly three) children: Cora b. 1873 (?), Bertie b. 1873 (?), Lulu H b. 1883, Edward E b. 1886, and Robert Hamilton (my great grandfather) b. 1889. Robert Hamilton Lee married Evelyn Laura Morris and they had two children: Nancy Ann and Robert Hamilton, Jr. If anyone has any information to help me break through this brick wall, I'd great appreciate it. Thank you! Kim Priestap Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have been searching for information for these ppl for many years with no success and I am just wondering if anyone else is researching them? Their father is John Lee, who was born in Ireland in 1838. He married Eliza Jane Andrew in Saltcoats in Ayrshire on 23 Sept 1864. I am unable to find his death in Scotland. I have found Eliza dying in Coatbridge in 1917. Her daughter Theresa was living in that area with her children. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
