    1. Re: Lee Lineage
    2. Patricia, I am also researching LEEs. I have gotten back as far as Zachariah LEE b. 1765 m. Jane Wright and d. 1838-54. I was wondering if he could have been any relationship to any of your Lees? But something else that drew my attention in your post was the name DeWITT. I am also searching for a Dewitt Clinton CLOUGH and I am sure Dewitt is a family name.I wonder, in your searching if you could tell me me any more about Catherine DeWitt or Furman DeWitt Lee, area, time or even your source? Thanks! Ginny

    3. I have different information for this Stephen. I have him as probably the son of Richard Lee; first married to possibly Jane Madison. Have only children from his marriage to Anne/Ann. His son was Gen. Henry of Mason KY. Do you have proof of his parents as Edward? I have been researching him. He was in Fauquier County near cousin Hancock and was variously a communicant at Broad Run Baptist Church there. There is a possibility that he was father to my William b. 1741/2. Stephen had land in Fairfax beginnin ca 1755. I'm open to new information, especially if we can get him connected to Queen Anne Parish in Prince Georges, MD. He died 1761. His will mentions son William but records of Lee family state this William b. 1758, d unmarried 1838. When will written, it appears that he William mentioned was not of age. ***There is birth of a William Lee in Christ Church Middlesex on 16 May 1742 (could this be "our" William? 3. I have a LEE ancestor that I am having much difficulty finding much information on. Here is what little I know. Lovie Lee born 1896, probably KY or IL She had her first child out of wedlock, a boy and named him Robert E. LEE b. 1910-1915 possibly around McCracken Co.KY, He was probably raised by her mother ( I have a photo of her but no mane - just grandma LEE). Robert lived to be an adult and served in WW II, no other information known on him. Lovie married Emmett A. Morris 1916? not sure where. They always lived in Paducah, McCracken Co. KY. She had a daughter 1917. She had another son 5/1919 and died after childbirth. The baby was adopted by neighbors as dad couldn't handle an infant. I have found where she is buried - Paducah but she did not die in that Co. The family plot that she is buried in has Rowland Howard LEE 1885-1953, Florence LEE Haverty 1891-1958. I can't seem to find any additional information. If any could offer any leads I would be much appreciated.............Karen

    2. Patricia Junkin
    3. Al, Have been researching Lees for years and trying to sort out he families. I do not know about your William and Matilda. I also am not certain whether the William Lee in Bucks Co. Pa. ever was in Va. However, there were many families out of Bucks, especially with Quaker connections, that came to Frederick Co. Va. (Hopewell MM). William and Ann Hoge are in the Wrightstwon MM and go to Hopewell. The following may be of interest: William Lee b. 1730 Ulster, Ireland came to the United States in 1744 and died in NC, was bound to blacksmith Quaker named Hoag (Hoge) for seven years.. William's family was on the next ship for America but sailed for Pennsylvania; when 21, this William became a hatter and employed 20-30 people; in 1818, he was in NC with wife, Susannah Pike and died there. He was an avid Quaker, on 4 February 1758 William was received into membership of the Society of Friends at Cane Creek MM and in 1758 married Susannah Pike b. in Frederick County, Va. They had 10 children including a William b. 1750. Another Lee family that is separate from VA Lees but in Prince William Co. VA:David and Joshua Lee mentioned in 1713 Middlesex Co. NJ records;Joshua married Hannah Dove, dau Alexander and Janet Gordon Dove of Monmouth NJ; Joshua d. 1748 in Middlesex NJ, his son David b. 1740 moved to Prince William in 1761 and died there in 1809. There is a Thomas Lee who is on a 1761 Buckingham Co. land survey; he and son Evander had land in Prince Edward Co, Va. Another Thomas Lee (m. Mary Griffin and Mary Bryan) was in 1783 in Hawkins Co. TN and his children went to Shelby Co. AL. Ch names Nicholas, Thomas, Micajah, Needham, John , william, Edward and James. And, I have TN relatives who were descendants of Charles Lee (Cobbs Hall). Your names are so unusual, think finding the wife's fmaily would be helpful. Good luck. 2. Dear Kerri, It seems that my LEE ancestors may have been Cherokee. The 2nd wife of my great, great, great grandfather Isaiah Lee, was my great, great, great grandmother Demarias DORMAN. Isaiah was her 2nd husband also. Her first husbands surname was Goddin. She was born in 1817 in Sampson County, North Carolina. Isaiah was born possibly in Richland County, South Carolina in 1806. Isaiah and Demarias married in Pike County, Alabama in 1836. The moved after 1840 to Coosa County, Alabama. It seems that Demarias had a Cherokee mother. My ancestors moved to Quitman, Wood County Texas in about 1903. I'm descended from Isaiah's son Joseph Calvin Lee, his grandson John Calvin Lee, his great-grandaughter Ida Elizabeth Lee, and great, great grandson Talmadge Westmoreland. It is interesting to note that Isaiah's son Levi Lee moved to Arkansas after the Civil War. His descendant Charles Hamilton is online with this service at chasm@insync.net. Linda
