Regarding Helen LEE, a descendant of John LEE, Esquire through his son Captain Thomas LEE and grandson Needham LEE: The city of Helena, Alabama (Shelby County), was named after Helen LEE in 1872 by her future husband Barthelemew (Pete) BOYLE. I have photocopies of some excerpts from a booklet entitled "An Early History of Helena, Alabama" and will be glad to send privately or to the list if anyone is interested in this. The booklet was written by Kenneth PEHNALE. The parts that I copied concern some information on the ROY family (married to LEE) as well as Judge Needham LEE's family. Marlene
Hi, I am looking for information on a Richard Lee who was married to a Frances (Franky) Harrison. They may have had a daughter named Susanna who married a Joseph M Trusler in Nelson County or Amhearst County, Virginia in the mid 1700's. Usanna was born around 1798. Were Richard and Franky her parents????? And was Ambrose Lee the father of this Richard Lee? If anyone has any information on this Lee line, it would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.... Ann
Hi all. MY father was Robert (Rex) Lay. He was born 2nd April 1908 in Erskineville Sydney. His father, Robert Thomas Lay born 9th Sept1884 in Singleton NSW married (16 Sept 1882) Alice Isabel Chew (born 17th Aril 1885) in Rochester Victoria Australia. Robert's father was Edmund John Lay (born 1858) He is reported to have come from Belleville Ontario. My Grandmother Alice, was of the opinion that (i) Edmund was related to Robert E Lee and (ii) he changed his name from Lee to Lay. (??) Does anyone out there have a family tree with an Edmund John Lee branch, (1858), going nowhere because mine seems to come from nowhere? Graham

Hello LEEs, Does anyone know the fate of William Collins LEE, born 13 July 1791 at Dudley, Worcester Co., MA? He was a son of Joel and Mary (NEWTON) LEE. The family removed to Townshend, Windham Co., VT in 1793, and later lived at Brookline, VT. The father Joel died on 9 October 1822 and William C. LEE is one of the children to whom money was paid from the estate. After that I can't find his whereabouts--I have checked VT and NY census indexes/films without success. At least five of his siblings (four brothers and a sister) removed to Rose, Wayne County, NY. I don't see any evidence that he went there, too. Mary (NEWTON) LEE's estate only mentions the son who was executor of the estate--no mention of William C. LEE. Has anyone on the list encountered him in records? A brother, John Wesley LEE who later relocated to Ashtabula Co., OH, and then to Painesville, OH, was said to have been involved in the Underground Railroad. Could William have lived somewhere up the line (even Canada)? No evidence on this question. Thanks for any input. Best wishes and happy hunting to all, Gary Gary K. Hi all--- I know at one time, Patty Smoot was working on the LEE/LEA line in Tuscaloosa Co., AL and I had corresponded regarding th smilarity of naming patterns that we found in our lines. Well, I finally got a hold of the volumes of Gandrud's AL Records which discuss these LEE/LEAs and amazingly, I also discovered a deed from Samuel STEADMAN to his grandchildren which linked the Tuscaloosa LEE/LEAs to my Marion & Fayette Co., bunch. RE: _The Lees and Kings of Virginia and North Carolina, 1636-1976_, by Reba Shropshire Wilson There have been some criticisms about this book on the list in the past, if I remember correctly, but I can't recall them specifically. I have access to it now, and I'm particularly interested in the "Lee" section, of course. So, I would like to know of any danger areas. Are there problems? What are they specifically? Can one "trust" the information contained therein? Any advice appreciated. Thanks Ken Jones
