    1. [LEE-L] LEE, Nancy 1792-1860, Fleming Co, Ky
    2. DufMichel
    3. Hello, I am begining to research the following LEE's, and related SOMERVILLE's and HOODs. Nancy Lee 1792-1860 married Joseph SOMERVILLE 1792-1847 in Fleming County KY. Joseph SOMERVILLE was born in Belfast, Ireland. His parents (father was probably John SUMMERVILLE) settled in Fleming Co in 1801. Known children include : William SOMERVILLE 1819-1909 (married Eliza HOOD), Eliza SOMERVILLE (married Randolf LEE), Landolf Watson SOMERVILLE 1825-1910 who married Nancy Belle LEE 1826-1909. Joseph and Nancy eventually moved to and spent the rest of their lives in Decatur Co, Indiana as did the William and Landolf and their spouses. Eliza Hood's mother was Isabella J LEE from Fleming County, Ky. Randolf LEE spent many years in Indiana before he and most of this children moved to Oklahoma. Nancy Belle LEE 1826-1909 was born in Fleming County, KY. Here parents were John and Elizabeth Lee, and they were probably from Pennsylvania. Anyone have any connections or information they are willing to share? Thanks, Mike

    1. [LEE-L] LEEs of colonial SC and Maryland.
    2. HFTHusma
    3. All- Based on official SC (colonial) records I have located a John Lee and his father, John, and brother, Francis, along Wateree Creek. John was granted 200 acres as "family right" in 1752. The land was described as on Wateree River in Craven County which later became Chester Co. near the border of Fairfield Co. John in his 1752 petition identifies himself as in SC since 1751, married with one child and a native of Maryland.. A John Lee married Margaret Howard in 1746 in Harford Co., MD. Margaret's grandfather was Nicholas Greenberry of MD. I have a Greenberry Lee who was born Harford Co.. MD and died in Richmond Co., GA in 1784 at age 36 (= b. 1748). His widow, Elizabeth Few, was provided 500 acres in Richmond Co.. GA by John Lee, Sr. in 1786. This John died in 1787. In his 1786 will John cited a wife, Mary, and children, but did not include Greenberry who had died in 1784. In the Cobbs Hall line in VA, there is a Thomas Lee ( Charles of Cobbs Hall , Richard the Immigrant) who m. Elizabeth Keene of Maryland. Thomas had sons, John and Thomas. John was in SC at the time of death in VA of his brother, Thomas . Thomas' will provided that his brother, John, be the executor, but because of the absence of John in SC in 1759 another was appointed.. These separate facts seem to tie together in time, place and name, but not in a documented way. Can anyone provide information to support or refute the possible commonality of these facts. Best regards, Hugh <HFTHusma@aol.com>

    1. [LEE-L] Stuck on LEEs!!
    2. Garen
    3. Okay, this is getting fun! First I started out with only Jessie LEE, the mother of Claire Lee CHENNAULT, now I've got THREE LEE dead-ends. I checked the online LEE family sites, but cannot find any of my dead-ends on them! Here's how it goes (in the form of an ahnentafel chart showing the LEEs): 1. Jessie LEE b. maybe Aug 1876 prob. Franklin Par., LA, d. 1898, m. poss. 7 Dec 1892 in Franklin Par., LA to John Stonewall CHENNAULT (s/o Stephen Nelson & Francis Norcussis THOMASON). Child: Claire Lee CHENNAULT 2. William Wallace LEE b. 1836 prob. Stewart Co, GA, d. Dec 1911 prob. Franklin Par., LA. M1. Florence BEAMAN who died during CW 3. Josephine GILBERT (parents u/k) m.1872 Franklin Par., LA 4. Henry Bryan LEE b. 15 Mar 1804 prob. Wilkes Co., GA, d. 5 Apr 1891 prob. Scott Co., MS, m. 18 Jun 1828 in Wilkes Co., GA 5. Margaret LEE b. 27 5 1813 in Wilkes Co., GA, d. 24 Feb 1883 prob. Scott Co., MS 8. Henry LEE b. c1779 in NC, d. 1860 Stewart Co., GA 9. Letitia "Lettie" BRYAN (parents u/k) 10. James LEE d. 1820 prob. Wilkes Co., GA, m. 26 Jun 1812 Wilkes Co., GA 11. Nancy FOSTER (parents u/k) remarried after 1820 20. John LEE d. prob. Wilkes Co., GA. On 2 Jan 1786 he received 230 acres in Wilkes Co., GA. There was a Continental Bounty Certificate indicating that he was a Rev. War Soldier. 21. Margaret (LEE?) So, now I'm stuck on the Henry LEE b. c1779 in NC, d. 1860 in Stewart Co., GA who married Letitia "Lettie" BRYAN. and the couple listed above John LEE and wife Margaret (LEE?). Is there a list of all the LEEs who served in the Revolutionary War? Does anyone know which LEE families lived in North Carolina around 1779? Thank you! Garen

    1. [LEE-L] Marion B.Lee-White County TN, 1870
    2. Al Lee
    3. I'm interested in finding any information or anyone interested in Marion B. Lee, married to Elizabeth Halterman, and was in White County Tn until slightly before the 1880 census. At the 1880 census Elizabeth, with children, was shown living with her parents. Marion was born and raised in Fentress County Tn, the name Marion B may be from neighbors at the time, Marion Baler Bledsoe. I speculate that his mother may have been a daughter of Marion B Bledsoe. If you have any knowledge of Marion B Lee, or the Halterman family, please let me hear from you. Regards, Al Lee

    3. If anyone has any knowledge, or interest, in three LEE brothers, Vanquelon, Bartholet, or Newton Lee, all in Fentress County Tn in the mid 1800's, please let me hear from you. Vanquelon went to Marion County Ill (before 1850), Bartholet went to Casey County KY (after the Civil War), but I don't know what happened to Newton. Bartholet had at least three wives, two for sure. His first wife may have been a daughter of Marion Baler Bledsoe, who were neighbors when his first son, named Marion B. Lee, was born. If you have any input, or interest, is these Lees, please let me hear from you. Regards, Al Lee

    1. [LEE-L] William and Matilda Lee, Fentress Cty Tn pre 1860
    2. Al Lee
    3. Is anyone interested in Wm. and Matilda Lee, who were in Fentress Cty TN about 1820 to the 1860s? They were from Virginia, but where in VA they were born or even where they were married is unknown. At least for a while in Fentress County, they lived close to a Marion B. Bledsoe family, and I suspect that one of their sons may have married a Bledsoe daughter. If you have any knowledge, or interest in this Lee family, or the Bledsoe family, please let me hear from you. Regards, Al Lee

    3. I found the father of Mahala Lee, B. abt 1820 in Butler Co., Ky and D. abt 1902 in Logan Co., Ky. Her father was a George M. Lee also of Butler Co., Ky. As of right now, I do not know anything more about George M. Lee other than the fact that he named Mahala as his daughter on her marriage bond to Jesse Mansfield. Please, if you have any information about the Butler Co., Ky. Lee Family, respond to me and I will thank you greatly. Who was this Butler Co., Ky Lee Family and how does George M. Lee relate to the Virginia Lee Family? Gene Key Dallas, Tx.

    1. [LEE-L] LEE, Nabby, b. abt 1773, MA
    2. Seth and/or BJ Hinshaw
    3. I have a case the opposite of what normally happpens for me. Instead of not being able to find someone, I have found three likely possibilities! Can anyone help me figure out which is the right one? I tried to order the town's vital records (to see if there was any further identifying info on the marriage record, such as a birthdate or father's name) from Salt Lake City, but they are permanently restricted. I am looking for the Nabby (?Abigail) Lee who married Nathan Carter (b. 15 Nov 1773) in Manchester, MA, on 3 Dec 1795. The three best possibilities that I have found were all born in Manchester, MA: 1. Abigail, b. 14 Jan 1772, dau. of Edward Lee and Eunice 2. Nabby, b. 24 July 1773, dau. of Ebenezer Lee and Mary Thorndike 3. Nabby, b. 14 May 1774, dau. of Solomon Lee and Sarah Hooper Nabby Lee Carter was listed as 77 yrs on the 1850 census, while her husband's age was given as 76. If these ages are right, then # 2 is the woman I am looking for (despite the fact that the Ancestral File has her marrying a different man, but it wouldn't be the first time the AF was wrong.......), since the census was done between their birthdays. Many thanks in advance for any info/hints/clues, BJ Hinshaw

    3. Dear Lee Researchers, I have a question about a thing related to Lee Family History called "Hotten's List", of the first Lees to come to Virginia. Does anyone know anything about it? What research has been done on these names since? Has it been collected in one central library? The contents of the list is as follows: "Thomas Lee, age 50, (in 1624) and Christopher Lee, age 30, came to VA in the ship "Southampton" in 1623 from the port of London, and in Jan. 1624 were living on the plantation of Abraham Peirsley at James City. The following were from the port of London to VA: John Lee, age 17, in ship "Bonaventure" Jan. 2, 1634 John Lee, age 16, in ship "Transport", July 4, 1635 William Lee, age 36 Anthony Lee, age 21 Henry Lee age 18 5 in ship "Assurance" July 24, 1635 Marie Lee age 22 Marie Lee age 14 weeks Joseph Lee, age 25 in ship "Primrose" July 27, 1635 Henry Lee from Barbadoes in ship "Unity" April 1, 1679 Richard Lee from Barbadoes in ship "Rebecca" July 17, 1679" This comes from the Montague Family History book (I think.) LEAVY, on her gravestone. b. 1852 (I was told in California, or on the way there.) m. Oct. 25, 1881, in ST. LOUIS, MO. to PERRY COOK. d. 1932, in ST. LOUIS, MO. I was told her parents had a Gold Mine Claim in California. I am not sure if this is true. In 1890, my Grandfather was born in St. Charles County, MO. in Portage Des Sioux. Mostly, she raised her family in St. Louis, MO. She had a brother named Thomas, a sister named Margaret, a sister Mame (maybe Mary). I have no idea what her parents names are, or where they came from, or went to. I wondered if anyone else was researching this surname. I would love any help I could get. Thank You, Christine - driopell@flash.net

I was wandering if you would know any of the names of the orphans taken in by Henry Lee that you mention above or a Dolly Lee. My ggg grandmother was Dolly Lee. I have two possible dob. 1818 in Clarke Co. Ga or 1826 in Paulding Co. GA. The story in our family goes like this--Dolly was orphaned at an early age and went to live with her Uncle Henry Lee and was raised as a sister to Robert E. Lee. She became a Medical Doctor and married a Willie Thompson. After they started their family they moved to Arkansas. I had a lead on a name for her father as Hart Lee and mother Elizabeth. I have found a Hartwell Lee in Paulding Ga with a daughter Dolly but he lived to be an old man and his Dolly has a different husband and is buried in GA. So I don't think this is correct. Of course it is possible the story of her being orphaned is not right. Thanks in advance for your time. Vicci Stone knvstone@thegrid.net

    3. I am going to try this again. I posted this request about a month ago and received some replys which I checked out and they didn't fit, plus I have also received more information, which may help. My g-grandmother received a post card in 190? from an A.O. LEE, the post card was addressed to "My Dear Brother's Sister" and that Mr. Lee was staying on a stock farm half way between Fairfax, MN and Franklin, but 1/2 mile closer to Fairfax. It is my cousins belief that Mr. Lee may have been confused with the translations from Norwegian to English of relationships, hence the strange salutation to my g-grandmother, he believes that Mr. Lee may have wanted to say "My Dear Brother's Wife". My g-grandmother was JOHANNE ELISE STENSRUD b. July 15, 1869 daughter of OLE OLSEN (BORUD) STENSRUD and INGEBORG KRISTIANSDTR. SKOG, in Vang, Norway. She married my g-grandfather Johan Christoffersen Vang on May 8, 1891. He was born out of wedlock on January 27, 1866, in Vang, the son of BERTHA LARSON and CHRISTOFFER KNUTSEN. My g-grandparents immigrated to the US around 1902, where their last name was changed from VANG to WANG, and settled first in Chicago and then in New Rockford, ND..later returning to Chicago where my g-grandfather died in 1919. What I am looking for is the connection to A. O. LEE. If anyone has any information, I would really appreciate hearing from them. I have contacted two LEE families in Minnesota, but we could find no connection. Thanks Marilyn
