Hi all, I'm sending this for a 'maybe' cousin. She's just put up her Lee's on a web page which you can access at: http://members.xoom.com/janicekmc/ Her Lee's came from KY to Benton Co AR. Shelley slee@concentric.net
Lee cousins, I have been searching for parents and family information on my husband's great great grandfather, John Lee, born 12/25/1833, married to Mary (Polly) Shed, who settled in the Oconee Co. area of S.C. I have received information from a distant cousin that his parents were John Lee, born 1800 and Elizabeth ?. I was also told that the family immigrated from England to Jamestown, Va, on the same ship as the Va. Lees. Does anyone have any information on the name of the ship that brought the Lees to America, the dates of the voyage, and the names of the Lees that made the voyage. From his information and genealogical work he said had been done on my Lee family, it was believed that my John Lee's line and Robert E. Lee's line were related in some way. I have researched the historical line of Robert E. Lee, but have no information on brothers or cousins that might link up wiht my Lee line. If anyone can help with information on the voyage and passengers, it might give me a start at linking up the two lines. Names that were included in my line were Hugh Lee and James Carroll Lee, but no time frame was known for these two. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Holly M. I am in quest of a William Lee b. 1741, d 1807 Warren Co. OH. where the Lewis Reno below owes the estate a debt. Family was in Frederick Co. VA, then Greene Co. PA, then OH. sons went to IN (Vigo and Bartholomew Co, then west). John Lee, s of Hancock, owned land just north of my William in Warren Co. OH. My family, as many of yours, claimed relationship to the VA Lees. This excerpt is from a compilation I am writing in an attempt to ascertain who my William was. Thought this would be of interest since you have Lewis Runo Lee. There are Renos from PA/NJ but my concentration is on the VA family and how they tie to the Lees. I have an unidentified Willia, John and Richard in Fauquier Co. VA area and the Richard below may be same. Pat Lewis Renoe account against Lewis Renoe (Lewis Renoe b. France, granted land in Prince William County, VA 1711), d. DEC 1754 had: Thomas Reno b. 1708 who had: William Reno, Lewis Reno, Thomas Reno, Catherine Reno m. John Cargile, Margaret Reno m. Richard Lee and Mary; Judith b. 1710 m. Henry Halley; John b. 1715 Pr. Wm Co. VA m. 1737 Susannah Thorn; Francis b. 1719; Lewis b. 1712 m. Elizabeth Whitledge. John and Susannah moved to Chartiers Creek, Washington Co., PA in 1765; a deed in Pr. Wm. Co. VA 3-5-1764 conveyed 121 acres of land bequeathed to him by his honored father, Lewis Reno, decd. Their son, Francis, was b. 1758 passed his boyhood with his parents in their new home and received his education in Dr. John M. Williams famous Log Cabin College at Canonsburg PA [8 mi. NE Washington, PA]... m. 1784 Lydia Sevier/Savers b. 15 Jan 1765 Frederick Co., VA, dau John or Valentine Sevier***...ordained 1792 at Christ Church Philadelphia and was sent out to the new settlements in the West...became rector of St. Likes Episcopal Church, Woodville PA ca. 1798 [first Episcopal Church west of Allegheny mts. on land set aside by Maj. William Lea on 1770 VA warrant], settled at Roachester, PA. Another son of John and Susannah Thorn Reno was William b. 2-9-1739 in VA m. Catherine Butler ca. 1760. In History of Allegheny Co. by Creigh: 1778, William Reno,a minister of the gospel also came to court and gave the required oaths of loyalty to and support of the colonies in the Revolutionary War....William went to Tennessee in about 1796 near Pigeon River. His father, John, at one time ran a tavern at Sycamore Shoals, near Elizabethtown, TN)
Have been digging in my file drawer of LEE stuff. Charles was married to two different women named Elizabeth or Betsy. First was Betsy WAGGONER Jennings Co IN (12-9-1822). They were divorced (can't lay my hands on the info at this minute but I recall Richard Lee testified for her). Then he married Betsy(Elizabeth) Williams Jennings Co IN (8-30-1833). Have always been sure this family is connected with my husbands line (Lewis Runo Lee) because of naming patterns. Names like Usual and Celia or Selah. Madge Norton mnorton@visnetinc.com

Hi, John, I've found a good way to obtain documentation about one's Revolutionary War ancestor. Write the DAR. Your Hezekiah Lee is found in the DAR Patriot Index--Centennial Edition, Part 2, page 1771: "Lee, Hezekiah, b 1736 CT d 1-15-1777 CT m Lydia Thompson Pvt Ct." Use the following format to request the application from the DAR. By asking for the most recent application, you are bettering your chances of getting someone with a current address with whom you can correspond. Also, that application may contain references to other approved DAR applications on the same line. You may want to get all the applications claiming your ancestor. These applications will contain source documentation on War service, and decendancy to the applicant. Each application will be $5.00. Don't forget to send the check! Here's the letter to send: Your return address Date Treasurer General National Society DAR Admin Building, 1776 D. St., N. W. Washington D. C. 20006 Dear Mesdames: Would you please send me a copy of the most recent DAR application claiming (name of your patriot ancestor here) as her patriot ancestor? He is listed on page (insert page number here) of the DAR Patriot Index--Centennial Editon Part (1, 2, or 3), "(quote entry here). I am enclosing a check for $5.00 for a copy of the application. Thank you. Sincerely, Your name Enc: check for $5.00, made out to the Treasurer General, NSDAR Good luck! Larry Cornwell
