Hello everyone, I have a copy of all of the following books and will be happy to do lookups. I hope I don't regret mentioning this! <G> JOHN LEE, ESQ. OF JOHNSTON CO., NORTH CAROLINA AND SOME OF HIS DESCENDANTS (1975) by Weldon Johnston, Orlene Lang, Robert T. Lee, Jr. and Lazelle Long. CAPT. THOMAS LEE OF HAWKINS CO., TN AND SOME OF HIS DESCENDANTS (1972) by Weldon Johnston, Orlene Lang, Robert T. Lee, Jr. and Lazelle Long. WILLIAM & PETER LEE (OCT. 1975) and the additio to that book by Lazelle Long and Kay Wrage Gunn. ROBERT AND GODFREY LEE (1979) by Lazelle Long and Orlene Lang. I am sorry to report that Robert T. Lee, Jr., co-compiler of the first two books, passed away a couple of years ago. About 8 years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting him and having him tour me all over Madisonville TN and surrounding areas, cemeteries, gravesites (some way back in the woods where it would be hard to find them again), etc. He was extraordinarily kind to me and he will be missed by the genealogical community. He took a lot of information with him in spite of the wealth of knowledge documented in his books. Lorien (Lee) Gunsallus Desc. of John Lee, Esq. through Capt. Thomas Lee of Hawkins Co. TN
I thought I would write as soon as possible, as I'm sure you will get swamped with email. I know how it goes. Since you have mentioned Tennessee in your book, I have been researching my GGGrandfather for so many years, I jump at anything that mentions Tennessee. My GGGrandfather was Moses P. (Perkins) Lee, he was born July 22, 1818 in Giles County, Tennessee and died December 06, 1897 in Grayson County, Texas. He moved at an early age to Monroe County, Mississippi, and married Alpha Omega Cain on December 23, 1847. I have yet to find any information on his early life, Mother, Father, Siblings, Etc. I was just curious if you had any mentions on a Moses Lee in your book as I'm still looking for a starting place......... Thanks so much for your time. LONG, COLUMBUS, GA. I KNOW THAT LAZELLE LONG HAS BEEN DEAD FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS, AS SHE WAS MY PARTNER WHEN WE COMPILED THE BOOK, ROBERT AND GODFREY LEE IN 1979. SHE AND I KEPT WORKING TOGETHER FOR SEVERAL YEARS TRYING TO MAKE HEADWAY ON AN ANCESTRY FOR JOHN LEE, ESQ. HIMSELF, BUT WERE UNABLE TO MAKE A PROVED CONNECTION. WE BOTH THOUGHT, HOWEVER, THAT JOHN, ESQ. WAS LIKELY A SON OF GODFREY LEE OF CHOWAN, THOUGH OTHER OPTIONS EXISTED. LAZELLE'S OLD PARTNER, ORLENE LANG, HAD BEEN DEAD FOR SOME YEARS PRIOR TO MY HOOKING UP WITH "ZELL." I CAN'T TELL YOU ABOUT THE STATUS OF THE MALE MEMBERS OF THE FOUR COMPILERS GROUP. THE PREVIOUS QUARTET OF COMPILERS ALSO DID ANOTHER LEE BOOKLET, CAPT. THOMAS LEE OF HAWKINS CO., TN AND SOME OF HIS DESCENDANTS (1972). LAZELLE AND ORLENE, ALONE, DID A BOOK ON WILLIAM & PETER LEE (OCT. 1975) AND IN 1982 (AFTER ORLENE'S DEATH), THEIR COMBINED WORK DID AN ADDITION TO THE WM & PETER LEE BOOK. IT WAS MY UNDERSTANDING FROM LAZELLE THAT COPIES OF ALL THEIR BOOKS WERE PUT INTO MAJOR LIBRARIES, INCLUDING NC AND GA, BUT I DON'T HAVE A FULL ROSTER OF THE DONATIONS. IT'S MY GUESS THAT THE SUREST WAY OF GETTING A COPY WOULD BE TO CONTACT EITHER THE NC OR GA LIBRARY & REQUEST THE NAME OF A RESEARCHER-FOR-HIRE THAT YOU COULD PAY TO COPY THE BOOK FOR YOU. I DON'T KNOW WHETHER THEY WERE EVER FOR SALE OR NOT, AS I CAME INTO THE SCENE AFTER THE JOHN LEE, CAPT. THOMAS LEE, AND WM & PETER LEE WORKS WERE DONE. I BELIEVE THEIR MAIN OBJECTIVE WAS TO SEE THAT COPIES WERE IN MAJOR LIBRARIES, SO THAT PEOPLE COULD ACCESS THEM THERE. >> ___________ Warren, I do not have a copy of the book you seek. I am trying to identify the parents of Adaline Lee who was born in Lincoln County NC in 1807 and who moved to Cape Girardeau County MO and married Isariah Mayfield there in 1827. I think that she may have been the daughter of James Ludwell Lee and Nancy Ruth Wilkinson who had a daughter in Lincoln County in 1807 whose name was Elizabeth but with no middle name. One other researcher thinks her father was Jesse Lee. Any help is greatly appreciated. Earle Mayfield
Hello, I am writing you about my GGrandfather" William Samuel Lee, Esq. whose ranch was on *Rock Creek* - Lee Ranch. don't see him listed on your site as a cattleman/rancher/stockman. One of the first English settlers in the Crowsnest Pass area, a gentleman, lived like one.....etc....arriving in Canada in 1867. His first ranch was on Lee Lake, a lake which Lee stocked with trout. His oldest son was Willaim Henry Lee; William Samuel Lee built the first 4 storey hotel called the Springs. It had sulphur baths - piped in water from the springs he found at the base of turtle Mountain. The area's name was changed from The Springs to Blairmore in 1899.. Later the CPR built a hotel across from Lee's hotel which was also called the Springs. Williiam Samuel Lee died in 1896. He is listed in the 'Rangeman' publication as having 10,000 acres. His brand was 41. He brought horses and cattle in from New Caledonia (BC) as well as from the US. He is a fairly well recognized and remembered pioneer ranchman in the Crowsnest Pass area. Lee Lake, Crowsnest and Lee Creek in Cardston are named after him. some ref from W.M. Wilson's site: http://www.crowsnest-highway.ca/timeline.pl?page=3 1868 Rupert's Land/N-WT.: W.S. I got this from the revised book written by Lazelle Long 1985. It is the corrected version. In the old book it says Martha probably Blackmon, but in the newer book it has Martha Eldridge. According to Samuel Eldridge's will, David Lee was his son in law., husband of Martha Eldridge. This book is in the Sampson Co., NC Library. Dolores.

Paula, Have you run across any Lee Families in Tennessee with a son named Moses? I am still looking for my Moses Perkins Lee born July 22, 1818. His marriage license shows he was born in Giles County, Tennessee. He is my Lee brick wall. He wound up settling in Monroe County, Mississippi and marrying Alpha Omega Cain on December 23, 1847 in Aberdeen, Monroe County, Mississippi. He died on December 6, 1897 in Grayson County, Texas from Typhoid Fever while visiting his oldest son Americus Lafayette Lee. I have been looking for years for his parents, siblings, etc., with no luck. If anybody has any ideas that may be of help to me, I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks in advance. Wow, Elaine, your Lee information looks very interesting. I have Lees in Pennsylvania. The earliest I have proved is a Robert Lee who died in Huntingdon County, PA in 1803. But these names that you have in your two messages run rampant in my branch of the family--James, John, and Robert particularly. But the one that is especially interesting is your "Adison" Terry since I have an Adison Lee (b. ca 1835). I can't tell though from your census post if those Terrys are descended from Lees or if a Lee married into that family. Elaine,. I have been a dangling descendant for years but cannot find anything that proves this is the father of my John Wofford of Rockingham Co, NC. Still trying to dispell the Mary TERRY theory. Still hoping? Norris
