That was fast~ It sounds like that house is amazing-- this one is very nice but doesn't have so many bells and whistles. It has one archway that used to have pocket doors (we WILL be putting an appropriate pair in the empty spot), it has pine floors throughout (underneath layers of carpet, linoleum(s), etc.), 11 1/2 foot ceilings (many of them lowered, which we will undo, of course), 25 fully-rounded arched windows (unfortunately no stained glass), most of the original woodwork, and we also found in the attic stairwell and parlor bay window some original wallpaper that we will hopefully be able to have reproduced. The house had a cupola on top that we will also replace, and that will literally be the "crowning glory" of our project. Thank you for all of that information-- we wanted to create a family tree for the LeDucs that lived in the house and whoever else we could find information about. If you know of anyone who might have old photographs of the house or family that would be extremely helpful! We have one photo so far, which I put on the Facebook page. If you ever want to come visit us we'd be happy to give you a tour of your Great Great Grandfather's house! It is on the block right behind the mansion that Edward Rutledge lived in until he passed away, which is now the Cook-Rutledge Mansion museum (not to be confused with the massive gothic Rutledge Home like so many people here do!). Both the Cook-Rutledge Mansion and the Elzear LeDuc house are brick and probably the two best examples of Italianate architecture in the Chippewa Valley. Please don't hesitate to send me a message if you're ever planning a visit to Chippewa Falls and would like to see the house!
