I've used the info you gave me and found Philomene's parents and great grandparents, so I'm moving forward. I do believe this is the right set of parents. Everything fits with what my great-grandmother told my mother. She said her mother died when she was about 2 - hence the marriage to Marie Papineau in 1862. But I find no record of Marie's birth or Philomene's death. According to her, her father never came to get her until she was about 12 and living in Oxford MA - why? She said he gave her to a couple to raise & then the women died & he came and got her - not sure if he stayed in touch in the meantime. She once asked my aunt to bring her to Oxford so she could go to the cemetery and visit the Catholic Church - my aunt didn't really pay much attention at the time. Don't know the couple's surname...and haven't found anything in the Oxford 1870 US census. Are you related to Antoine? Why were you researching them? Just! curious.
