Egiseppe Leduc and Lucie Rousseau are my great great grandparents also Pierre and Amable Cadieux are Egesippe's parents, so I will try to work from there. My father and Grand Father always told us they were from native blood in Canada, but denied their heritage to get jobs in the cotton and wool mills. I do appreciate you taking the time to explain this for me. Denis Ledoux Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: dklart Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.leduc/540.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Denis, Everyone was new at one time, and has to start somewhere. I believe you're attempting a more advanced search, which is difficult for someone just beginning. You may have to step back before moving forward to get your skills up to speed for the challenge. I recall searching some of the marriages you have listed, that's when I realized something was amiss. If I understand correctly, the couples you've listed may or may not be connected to one another, but are not a direct line? Is that correct? I believe I found the sources you are using for your data. Am I correct that you found the marriages a lister published on the Quebec mail-list from their database? The lister has Pierre and Eqesippe Leduc with the "dit" name Iroquois. Iroquois isn't one of the recognized dit names for Leduc that I can find and there's no source that substantiates it. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but is does need some source to verify it. I've looked at the actual marriage record for Pierre Leduc to Amable Cadiux, no mention of Iroquois; as well as the marriage of JB "Egiseppe" to Lucie Rousseau, again no mention of Iroquois. Did you also find a tree on rootsweb that has this entry, "Egesippe Iroquois Leduc Original People" as the name? Please note this tree has 700,000 entires, and by all gene standards, is known as a junk tree. Using info that others have published is perfectly ok, as long as you use it as a guide only. Don't assume it's fact until you can verify for yourself with documentation. I would research the entire family of Jean Baptiste "Esigippe" Leduc and Marie Louise "Lucie" Rousseau. Find and assemble the baptismal and marriage records for all the children you can find. This helps give you insight to the irregularities of the naming, as well as naming rhythms. It also allow you track the families" movements, making the search backwards easier. I found some of the older children in St-Hilare, younger children in St-Jean Baptiste, both parishes in Rouville. I didn't find a mention of Iroquois in any of those records. In the records of the older children be sure and note the godparents, they are most times parents, siblings, aunts and uncles of the child's parents. This helps to sort out the previous generation as you work backwards. After completing that family, I would continue backwards, doing the same for Egiseppe's parents, Pierre Leduc and Amable Cadieux. The Drouin Collection, which I believe you have access to, (I looked at your tree) is a wonderful resource to research your FC ancestors. If there are Indigenous People in your ancestry, you'll find them along the way; but don't be surprised if they are many, many generations back, if at all. Good luck on your search Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
