What we do is one thing. What the census taker did may be something entirely different. It's been interesting to see the differences in census takers: hand writing, spellings, abbreviations (or lack thereof), and other variations in various parts of the country. Some seem to follow the rules, some seem to forget some of them. But, we have the 1940 census now, and it's getting closer to done every day.
