I feel compelled to reply to this. When I left my abusive husband 12 years ago, my Counselor gave me the advice not to tell my husband that I might divorce him as I had told him that I might. This was honesty in its purest form. She became very concerned and said that she did not believe that he would kill me but she was concerned about my safety. I knew that she was right. When my husband asked me again if I planned to leave him, which he did on occasion, I replied that I did not plan to leave. When I truly did leave, he told the children that I left and took them but had lied to him about it. My 21 year old son who is now living with myself and my new husband mentioned this fact recently which had been mentioned on occasion before. I brought up the story about Abraham who said that Sarah was not his wife and had been instructed to, of all things, to lie. Was it a sin? I had more than one blessing from the Priesthood that the Lord was watching over me and had protected me when I left my ex-husband. Did I lie? I would say, "Yes." Was it a sin? I believe that only the Lord knows the intents of our hearts and whether or not the actions we take are sins in all circumstances. Just my opinion. There have been numerous occasions when the Lord has given exceptions to commandments--Nephi's beheading Laban, Israelites destroying Canaanites, Book of Mormon battle tactics, etc. The Lord knows our hearts and intents. I don't see a problem in changing a date which you will immediately correct in order to do your mother's temple work. The work will not be done until the year has passed.
