    3. I agree with you, but people are stumped because the abbreviation appears in the "place name" field.     3. it's not a mistake. It is genealogical standard for ages. Even the strict standards has these in the places.     3. Well, Dave, if you are following this thread, people "gave up" on the Latin explanation because the abbreviations appear in place names.     3. I am pretty sure that it is the latin meaning. People put all sorts of things in the fields if they don't know where else to put them. Just yesterday I found "killed by Indians" in the death place. I also found "+" in the names fields and someone else put "never married" in the location. I could look all day and never find a place called "Killed by Indians" or "Never married". And I am pretty sure that you won't find a place called "spm" or "spms".
