    3. You can find the Latin word list at familysearch.org by the following link. http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/RG/frameset_rg.asp?Dest=G1&Guide=WLLatin.asp SueM David wrote: > Without knowing the context this is just a guess: > > SPM = sine prole mascala Latin for without progeny male. 3. They are in place name fields in some PAF data I'm looking at. It doesn't look like any place abbreviations I've seen before, so that's why I asked the list. Sorry I didn't clarify where I saw the abbreviations. 2. DORIS BATEMAN
    3. Hi Everyone. I have just found an major error in NFS that was contributed to Ancestral file by a person I can recognize as my cousin who lives in Utah and does not yet have access. I am sure she would be very happy to work with me to make the correction, she is a real sweetie. Is is possible for me to sign on as helping her and have her claim her contribution and make the change now, or do we have to wait until she has access? Doris Bateman

    3. Doris, you could contact her and ask her. She would need to give you her last five digits of her membership number to do that. But it is possible. That way the correction would show as her name also. There will not be contact info for her changes until she gains access, just like you already discovered. SueM DORIS BATEMAN wrote: > Hi Everyone. 3. Doris You can not sign in as a helper to have her claim her contribution. If you do, the person signing in as the helper ends up claiming it. I already did this one. I was the helper and we had to have Salt Lake take me off and the person that wanted to claim her contributions had to wait until our temple went live with nFS. The person claiming has to be registered in nFS. Hope this helps! 3. Some of my relatives used the place fields in PAF very creatively--one used it to record the wills she found and the dates, instead of putting them in sources and notes, and one relative, if she did not know where someone was from, put "Lost" in the place field. Others, knowing the ancestor was from Dorset, England, added that info. So AF, PRF, and NFS have a lot of my people recorded as being from Lost, Dorset, England; Lost, Malmo, Sweden; Lost, Yorkshire, England; etc. ( none of which have ever existed.) I can laugh now about how hard I looked for those places until I suddenly realized what had happened. I would suspect that your abbreviations are someone's personal shorthand for something they knew about the person and might not even relate to a geographical place you can identify. 3. To Peter--thanks for the answers to my question. To Paula--My understanding is that changes can not be made directly to the ancestral file, but when that error shows up in New Family Search, it can be changed by the person who submitted it, if they claim the Ancestral File contribution, which is called a Legacy contribution in NFS. But that is assuming the error wasn't copied and submitted by a zillion other people. 3. You might be very right. But the impression I got from the help people once was that ancestral file was so messed up that those couldn't be changed. And, my guess is that many of those submitters are no longer with us-- of course their descendants could claim the submissions. 2. DORIS BATEMAN
    3. Hi. I am trying to clean up some NFS records, and have found something that is just so wrong. A whole family, the children born 1776-1790 had their temple baptisms done in the Salt lake Temple in 1928. All of the children show death dates in NFS that are the date the temple baptism was done, making them about 180 years old when they died. For several of the children, we do not have a correct death date, so you can not change it in the summary. This just makes the record so wrong--do you think I should dispute it, send it on to Feedback, or just not worry about it? Doris Bateman

    3. I think we should always keep in mind that someday nfs or its successor will be open to the general public. We should really try to make it as accurate and reliable a source as possible. So I'd dispute it, and send it on to Feedback. But, do we know what will happen with the data in nfs if it's replaced with familytree or whatever the plan is? Will all the corrections we've made be passed along? Paula On Apr 15, 2009, at 12:55 PM, DORIS BATEMAN wrote: > Hi.
