I'm not sure of this argument. If missionaries came to you and you were converted, but said, you have to wait your turn to be baptized for some indefinite period, how would you feel? Why do we wait for indefinite periods and also risk that the work will never be done? Where it is difficult for members to complete the 50-100 names they might easily discover nowadays with all the info that's online, I generally suggest that they personally do the work for their direct line grandfathers and mothers and for the aunts and uncles they personally knew and felt close to. This makes it more reasonable. I'm not sure there is any virtue in personally completing all the work yourself. Preparing it and seeing to it in a timely manner will bless you just as much. I think that part of our job should be close coordination with the HPGL/priesthood in the ward or branch making sure that our patron names do get to the temple. This also includes taking time the next time we are at the temple to speak to someone in authority (especially if we live some distance from the temple) and ask how they might suggest we can accomplish extra endowments so that we can participate in sealings ourselves. I am sure you will find help at the temple if you live at a great distance and come from a very small branch of the church. Michele In a message dated 4/14/2009 6:50:09 A.M. For the most part, they are coming in singly (either because they are single, once again single, and/or their children are adult and in different households, although a few convert members who've been in longer came in without their spouses.) None of us knows how long we've got here on earth before we graduate from the school of life and move forward to other responsibilities. If any of my flock of single new members die, what happens to the unfinished names that they've begun? (Some of them can not yet do the endowment work themselves because they haven't been in the Church long enough.) The unfinished work will hang indefinitely, if there is not a reasonable time limit before names can again be released to the general membership for other, perhaps more distant, relatives to find and finish. Hi I think it is imperative to tell people to make sure that they keep their cards that need temple work completed together and in one place. I have a file for mine. They also need to tell someone (family member or friend) where they are located so that in case of death or them being unable to take care of the cards that person can go and take the cards so that they can be completed. My sister, son and also a friend know right where the cards are kept so hopefully the work can continue without a wait. I do not have a huge file either, just enough to do for family and some ward friends. Thanks for this thread. It has been most interesting to read. Jean
