To add to Alice's comment below- each of these free versions : Roots Magic, Legacy and Ancestral Quest, come with the ability to sync with FamilySearch without purchasing an additional add on program. I also agree that helping someone get their first temple names submitted to the temple quickly, and efficiently (after checking duplicates, following all the rules, and having enough info to uniquely identify them), gets them hooked. Then they are much more likely to stick with family history work and are excited to start their own personal management program.
